Mexico is hugely diverse, like a lot of Latin American countries but the music doesn't have a worldwide market so only a few types of music get's exported. A lot of Latin American countries have a huge range from modern types of music such as pop, colonial music such as salsa, and indiginous music such as Andean Music

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

my sister spent a lot of time in latin america. Here are a few things she brought back that i remember

Robi Draco Rosa (used to be in the boy band ricky martin started off in, went down a darker path - i believe this album, vagabundo, won awards - not sure if this qualifies since there were obvious grunge music influences happening here)

Latin music. Hmmm. Small subject.

The best of the Spanish-speaking stuff for me is old Colombian Cumbia. Not much on Youtube, but a decent sampler here:
