  • Is Youtube banned in Pakistan?
     OP - December 15, 2012, 08:29 PM

So these Pakistani Kids found my website and started arguing with me on my website's facebook page.

I tried to show them some youtube videos but they are telling me they can't view Youtube in Pakistan. Have you ever heard of that?

Here is the discussion I am having with these kids:

Tonyt I would like to say thank you for your debate with these guys, you did a great job and I am sure have given them plenty to think about...I think such debates are exactly what is needed to enlighten people who are so brain washed and only see things that support their religious claims and hopefully word will get round to other people too...The problem as also highlighted by your discussion with them is that it feels like your banging your head against the brick wall most of the time because these people are not willing to listen half the time

That's being overly optimistic. It would be a miracle of sorts  if any of those who responded changed his mind. I didn't spot any real fence sitters there. There were no doubts whatsoever.Everyone seems to be comprehensively brainwashed.Unfortunately 'mazhab' is more about 'zazbat' than 'aqal' and unless there's some balance between the two there's no chance of any doubts cropping up.

Sorry, I can't answer on whether YouTube is banned in Pakistan or not but I read the discussion and I must say you did great and their brainwashing and willful ignorance showed. You're very polite too! I wouldn't have been as patient with such fools.

    Pakistan
On 22 February 2008 YouTube was blocked in Pakistan following a decision taken by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority because of the number of "non-Islamic objectionable videos."  One report specifically named Fitna, a controversial Dutch film, as the basis for the block.  Pakistan, an Islamic republic, ordered its ISPs to block access to YouTube "for containing blasphemous web content/movies."[ Blasphemy law in Pakistan calls for life imprisonment or death. This followed increasing unrest in Pakistan by over the reprinting of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons which depict satirical criticism of Islam.  Router misconfiguration by one Pakistani ISP on 24 February 2008 effectively blocked YouTube access worldwide for several hours. On 26 February 2008, the ban was lifted after the website had removed the objectionable content from its servers at the request of the government.

It has been suggested by some Pakistani web sites, blogs, and by electoral process watchdog groups that the block was imposed largely to distract viewers from videos alleging vote-rigging by the ruling MQM party in the February 2008 general elections.  Allegations of suppressing vote-rigging videos by the Musharraf administration were also leveled by Pakistani bloggers, newspapers, media, and Pakistani anti-Musharraf opposition parties.

On 20 May 2010, on Everybody Draw Mohammed Day Pakistan again blocked the website in a bid to contain "blasphemous" material.   The ban was lifted on 27 May 2010, after the website removed the objectionable content from its servers at the request of the government. However, individual videos deemed offensive to Muslims that are posted on YouTube will continue to be blocked.

On 17 September 2012, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) ordered access to YouTube blocked, after the website did not remove the trailer of Sam Bacile's Innocence of Muslims, a film insulting Islam and eventually resulting in a ban due to YouTube's non compliance.[41]

well that is from Censorship of YouTube ..So the last ban is still on..

Damn that is crazy. A lot of people in Pakistan must be pissed off about blocking the entire site just because of a trailer to one Anti-Islamic film.

According to Alexa, youtube is still ranked 9 in Pakistan.

Though those statistics could be from before the ban.

Keep fighting the good fight TonyT!  Afro Your patience with some of those clowns was extraordinary. Unfortunately I'm not sure your efforts will penetrate minds that are clearly unwilling to rationally examine the history of their religion, but it never hurts to keep putting out the facts.

Thanks for the support you guys. I really appreciate it. Somebody even responded to them in Urdu, I am guessing that was Yeezevee, no idea what he wrote....

I don't go looking for people like that to argue with, but when they come to my website and criticize I have to respond to their nonsense. While it is true that probably none of them will be persuaded, for every 1 person that writes a comment, there are another 100 that just read and do not write anything. Those are more likely to be the fence sitters that might be persuaded by something, and when you have these kids whose only real comeback is to get angry and start swearing, well that just makes them look silly.

Tonyt ., That is exactly the goal of websites like this or your blog at your site..

to make them angry .. to make them look foolish.., You should not worry about their swearing.  In fact that is the starting point of they questioning their blind  belief . Any way I am more interested in the You tubes  that young fellow from Pakistan was unable to watch.  I wonder CEMB could have folder  that saves of   those  tubes on site where they can get to watch them from it's   server with some media player..  CEMB need not store all tubes.. Only few of Hassan's , nessrriinn's and of thsoe debates/meeting from MaryamNamazie..

CEMB is not banned in Pakistan...

My reply was berating him for abusing you  and getting your Mother into the picture. I was trying to tell him as politely as possible that by doing so he would be denigrating Islam.
