That doesn't sound like a slut issue to me.  The jury may well have thought his behaviour was that of a skanky asshole and she was blameless, that doesn't mean the prosecution could prove he committed a crime.  If you've got one witness saying she consented and the other too drunk to remember what happened, not guilty is the correct verdict unless there's some other evidence on the prosecution side.

As to the thread topic - the meta analysis of rape victims' clothes and behaviour is asinine.  Men and children get raped too, does anybody ever ask what they were wearing at the time?  Rape has alot more to do with the psychology of the rapist than the clothes or behaviour of the victim.

Is there a way of showing the contents of the post that were edited out? Some sort of a history function or something? It's almost impossible to follow a thread that's been mangled like that.
This is internet - a public place, surely people should be mature enough to write only stuff they are comfortable publicly sharing with others.

Btw I though gay guys are usually more socially aware and less misogynistic. ZOMG is obviously an exception. What gives?

ZOMG, this might get me banned or something, but you are really a sad waste of life. Your values are so ugly and detestable.

    This.

I also noticed that the issue of male-to-male rape tends to be overlooked although it may not be as frequent as the male-to-female rape but I'm sure a male victim may go through what the female victim has gone through or even worse. I don't think if some dudes can report the case to the police that they got ass raped mostly because of the humiliation that they may likely face. I mean imagine *shudders*

ZOMG is gay? Excuse me for being stereotypical but aren't they normally a bit…progressive? I thought he was a Muslim.
    @Kenan
He was basically arguing that advising women to take "precautions" against rape (which appear to be on how to dress to avoid rape) is no different than telling home owners to lock their doors at night to avoid being burgled. That sorta thing.

I just assumed that he is gay based on his profile.

His avatar is a pic of a gay Australian dude called Zyzz, a proper gay icon if there ever was one.
Furthermore if he knows about Zyzz he knows about /fit/ (a place where Zyzz used to hang out online) and everyone on /fit/ is gay, it's axiomatic.

Here are some sure fire rape prevention tactics found on the web:

"Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work"

    1. Don’t put drugs in women’s drinks.

    2. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.

    3. If you pull over to help a woman whose car has broken down, remember not to assault her.

    4. If you are in a lift and a woman gets in, don’t assault her. You know what? Don’t even ogle her.

    5. When you encounter a woman who is asleep, the safest course of action is to not assault her.

    6. Never creep into a woman’s home through an unlocked door or window, or spring out at her from between parked cars, or assault her.

    7. When you lurk in bushes and doorways with criminal intentions, always wear bright clothing, wave a flashlight, or play “Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)” by the Raveonettes on a boombox really loud, so women in the vicinity will know where to aim their flamethrowers.

    8. USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If it is inconvenient for you to stop yourself from assaulting women, ask a trusted friend to accompany you when in public.

    9. Carry a rape whistle. If you find that you are about to assault a woman, you can hand the whistle to your buddy, so s/he can blow it to call for help.

    10. Give your buddy a revolver, so that when indifferent passers-by either ignore the rape whistle, or gather round to enjoy the spectacle, s/he can pistol-whip you.

Don’t forget: Honesty is the best policy. When asking a woman out on a date, don’t pretend that you are interested in her as a person; tell her straight up that you expect to be assaulting her later. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the woman may take it as a sign that you do not plan to rape her.

Closeted homosexuals (particularly those trying to deny their homosexuality/bisexuality) are usually not progressive. In fact one could argue they are the majority of people who are homophobic... and homophobia is intimately connected to misogyny. BTW, gay men can be misogynistic too, just like gay women can be misandrist, though not all are. There is a stereotype that all gay women are misandrists and no gay men are misogynists. Both stereotypes are actually inaccurate as there is lots of internal diversity in LGBT communities.

I thought he was a Muslim.

    AFAIK he's an exmuslim.

Is this for real?  Cheesy Cheesy. A real rapist won't heed the advice and a normal person doesn't need it ! If the message is for people who are supposed to be unable to control themselves in the face of temptation, then it is as puerile as saying provocative clothing causes rape.

The connection is not very strong. It all depends on what you call 'more socially' aware. IMO true misogyny is innate and honestly I have come across very few cases in RL.  Cheesy Cheesy Of course there are a lot of pseudo misogynists depending on how paranoid you want to be !

rape was around before the miniskirt, and will sadly be around long after the burka..

Indeed! it is because there will always be some percentage of the population that is sick in the head ,but it's unfair to demonize an entire gender by fatuous generalizations( Cheesy I am not saying you have done that!).

It is meant to show the ridiculousness of constantly blaming rape victims for rape, whether through legislating what they should wear to avoid rape or giving any kind of "advice" to avoid rape.

Rape is caused by rapists. The blame for rape is always and only on rapists. Period.

If a woman walks on the street naked and starts masturbating, that does not give a single person the right to rape her. END OF STORY.

Why the fuck is this so hard for some people to understand? Why do some people want to keep giving rapists leeway by saying anything except for actually blaming rapists for rape? What is it about rape that brings out all this bullshit in so many people?

Every time I hear a person say that some girl was "asking for it" I always think to myself "you're asking for a good punch IMO".

And like allat said; if I saw a sexy woman walk on to the street naked and start masturbating I certainly wouldn't go and rape her (although I may need to cover a bulge in my pants). Should I be proud that I've never raped or groped anyone? An even funnier thing is that I am mentally ill and still seem to have no problem keeping my hands off other people...

It ties in a lot with slut shaming, another thing that pisses me off.

Another funny thing I've noticed is that whenever I meet a girl who ignores slut shaming and enjoys sex in her lifestyle, she always seems WAY happier than all of the girls who do the usual EWWWW DIRTY SEX IS FOR SLUTS AND WHORE thing. Even if someone doesn't actually have any sex, just not acknowledging slut shaming seems to make for people who are much happier.

Personally, I only call men sluts (obviously as a joke), including myself.

Pepe, you are freaking awesome! Plus, love the horse picture  dance This 'slut shaming' crap really pisses me off. My mom does that. I haven't heard anything from my dad about it but I'd assume he agrees with her. NO ONE deserves that by just wearing clothes! I really dislike when people use words like slut, bitch, etc. Even if they are making a good point because it's aligning with the depravity of the opposition. I never understood the whole 'women are sexual beasts' fear thing. What is so scary about us? Men are the ones with the 'weapon', if I beg your pardon. Not to mention the massive strength. And I don't mean to be anti-man or anything, (I'm anything but anti-man) but my impression is that men are usually the ones pursuing sexual interests. Marco's the type of person I'd curse with impotence or something. Maybe a few boils in an uncomfortable place for a few weeks Wink Although, there's a chance that his behavior reflects a problem with impotence.

Got into an argument with some dickhead on fb about this article:

Men get raped too. What advice would you suggest we give to men to avoid them getting ass raped? What should they wear and not wear? How much skin can men show? How tight can their clothes be? Please enlighten us.
