What's it doing up there? Luthiel is on 'droid and it's fine for her (ie: sits in the corner of the screen and works like it should).

What version of 'droid do you have? If it's 2.x it probably wont support some stuff. I may have to disable those for older versions.

Hmm. May have to disable them for everything except late model Android. Looks like early Android, Opera Mini and iOS can't handle it. http://caniuse.com/#feat=css-fixed

ETA: And before anyone asks, I removed the "Home" button on mobile to keep the menu to one line and save a bit of screen space. The site banner above the menu links to the home (front) page anyway, so it's still available if you want it.

    froyo 2.3.6,

I'm using defaults browser before, switched to opera mobile, working fine now.

Yah fixed positioning support on 2.3.x is a tad iffy, but if it works with Opera Mobile and you don't mind using that for this site then no prob.

ETA: Hang on. Froyo is 2.2.x. If it's 2.3.x it's Gingerbread.

Tweaked the css. Try it now.

(I had only accounted for phones down to 320 before, not 240).

Actually it's still being pushed out a bit on 240. Will have to take a closer look to see what is doing the pushing.

Zoom should be fine though. Shouldn't need any manual zooming to fill the screen.

Might have to hide some more stuff on 240. There's very little space on a screen like that.

    K. Will check it out. I know I still have to sort poll threads on mobile anyway.

ETA: Polls are now ok down to 320.

Most stuff should be good down to 240 wide now. Not perfect everywhere, but usable. If anything is really rooted, let me know.

In the new default theme, how do we ignore or un-ignore someone?

Click on the down arrow next to their username and from the menu that appears click "Put this user on ignore". Smiley

You don't have to hit the arrow. The whole area from the left side of the post over to the little arrow is clickable.  Afro

    Os,
Just wanted to say, if you are digging around to fix the search slowness bug, could you also see if you can fix the topic-specific search bug. That shit ain't worked for years.

    Quoting from the staff board:

Search on this new theme seems a bit funny. Sometimes it takes ages, sometimes it's really fast, even running the same search term. So I figure we gotta live with it the way it is.

IOW, doesn't appear to be much I can do about it. It seems to be random. We are up well over half a million posts now anyway, and SQL search isn't the best. Might have to look at Sphinx sometime.

Not sure about the search by topic id thing. I've never used it. If I can't fix it, I'll get rid of it.

Ok humans Greetings I have been playing around with the search in an attempt to improve it a bit.

Turns out the search within a topic seems to be borked. Some obscure stuff in the back end coding that I don't have time to track down at the moment (it's a jungle in there). So, that option is gone.

Search within board seems to be ok, so that stays.

What I've also done is to enable Google search of the whole domain. This will only pick up public content that is visible to guests/lurkers, since that is all that spiders can access and index. It's fast though, and may be handy for a lot of things.

It opens the standard Google search results page, which is fine IMO (I'm not going to bother to try and import the content from that into the forum templates).

Lurkers/guests get the Google search by default, and don't have any other options.

ETA: Oh and if you're logged in on mobile you get what's in the pic below. Figured you might as well have the same options as desktop, but needed to save space. Smiley

    Awesome. Afro

The Google search is fast as hell.  I think a good search function is essential in a forum.

Yup, and there's still the forum search as backup, if needed.

The top bar search defaults to forum search Google search*. I figured that would be best, since it's by far the fastest and will deal with the majority of the site content.

If you're logged in, you can still get the forum search options from the droppy menu off the top bar. I think most people will only use the forum search if they need to search for content in non-public boards, or if the content they are looking for is too recent to have been indexed by Google, or if they specifically want some of the more fine-grained options the forum search offers.

Hey just a warning: I have to revamp the profile pages to fit on phones, so if you're using any of those during the next day or so don't be surprised if they suddenly do odd things. They'll still work, but may suprise you bit.  grin12
