    From cemb website:

In May 2012 we started a group in New York City where ex-Muslims and Muslims who have questions about religion or want take a more objective look at its teachings can come and participate in a free and open discussion without fear of punishment or judgement.

The group has grown very fast since and we now have regular meetings in NYC, Detroit and online. We are also launching new groups in Washington DC on Friday, February 15th and Chicago on Friday, March 15th.

If you or someone you know is an ex-Muslim who is willing to start a meet-up in your city or wants to participate in the NYC, Detroit, Washington DC, Chicago or the online meetings please contact us at muslimishnyc@gmail.com.

Muslimish is affiliated with the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain.

Awesome! Finally! I'll try to get something going in my city/state.

This is a great opportunity to have honest discussion within a context that doesn't usually allow for that. I am thrilled. And maybe this way, we could figure out who among our circle of Muslim friends are strong doubters/bordering on disbelief. We should be exposed to one another like that - not hide or stay silent in fear.

Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.

well, if you still have faith in God, but leave the label of "muslim" and "islam" behind, does that make you an unbeliever?
I converted seven years ago, but the past year and a half have seriouly considered moving away from "Islam" as an institution. Muslims (particularly Arab and Pakistani) treat converts seriously wrong. Top it off with all the other nonsense going on and all the cultural baggage they bring to the faith it hinders the individual from spiritual growth. God is truth and truth cannot be contained by a label or a box. Faith in God is living and it's about growth. The majority of Muslims are stagnant and wallowing in their own personal miseries.
