Sorry to be the voice of dissent, but MIA pisses me off no end, possibly because I had such high hopes of her.

Face it, her music's shit - clattery artless shit that no amount of attention-stealing and 'subversive' styling can disguise.

If the iERA really is stalking this page (which I'm sure they are), then they already realize how much cooler we are than them. I mean come on, we are witty, we have fun, we play guitars, we have our own surahs, and our women are the better half. Come on iERA, yall know yall wanna be like us. Yall have studied the quran, you know it's not really from God. Yall have researched evolution and you know damn well that humans weren't made from potter's clay. Yall know yall wanna leave Islam and stop the charade. I know some of you must be worried about your careers as snake oil salesmen, but how hard is it to go back to school and get a technical degree? Seriously. Just drop the front boys and go on ahead and make an intro thread. You too Hamza.

We should give iERA some credit though. Their very acronym shows that they consider Education, Research and Academies to be more important than islam.

    Hey murtad,
Sorry to go off topic, but I was just wondering: did you salafis believe Allah had real hands and made Adam with real clay?

    Hey murtad,
Sorry to go off topic, but I was just wondering: did you salafis believe Allah had real hands and made Adam with real clay?

Yes. Hands that fit his majesty and that we cannot understand. It is, according to imam , Malik, haraam to ask "how" Allah's hands are.

The clay was real, actual clay like potters clay. And there are many ahadith that support this. Crazy huh?

Salafis actually spend a lot of time talking about the realness of Allah's hands and feet. To deny their realness was kufr.

Talk about an anthropomorphic God, eh!

A couple of years ago when Saif Rahman started a facebook group to continue the debate about evolution and defend an imam who raised the issue of compatibility of evolution with the Islamic narrative, I raised exactly the question I put to you.  One Muslimah got angry at me for insulting her God by suggesting he has hands, only for a Salafi to say yes he does. LOL

i assume through the beauty of the metaphysical realm they are made of something we can't comprehend. as it usually goes.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    Lots of holy awesome Allah-ness...Duh...

Seriously, the nature of Allah is a huge part of salafi creed. They make a huge distinction between affirming the attributes that Allah is said to have in the Qur’an and anthropomorphisizing him.

They say that Allah has hands, as is mentioned in the Qur’an, and that we can understand the meaning of the word “hands” linguistically. Allah’s hands will be unlike anything in creation, as there is nothing like unto him, but they will still fit the definition of hands. It is haraam to ask how they work “takyeef” or to try to interpret them “ta’weel” or to try to make analogies for them “tamtheel.”

This is a central part of salafi dogma.

So according to the salafis allah has hands but they are not in any way similar or analogous in form or function to "hands"

     Huh?

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living

It’s impossible to try to make sense out of it. Here is the issue. The Qur’an speaks about Allah as having certain attributes, i.e. hands, a face, the ability to become angry, the ability to hear, the ability to see etc. On the surface of it, these attributes sound rather human. But we know that nothing can be like Allah. So they say that we affirm these attributes, as to deny them would be denial of the Qur’an. But since there is nothing like unto him, then there is no way that we can understand what they are actually like. We understand the meaning of the word “hands,” so we believe that Allah has hands. But we can not understand what they are like, so we don’t try to interpret them any further than to say “He has hands.”

Oh yes, Orthodox Judaism is awful. There is a prayer that Jewish men are supposed to recite everyday that includes something along the lines of "Thank you God for not making me a woman." No such equivalent exists, of course, where women thank god for not making them men.

    I beg to differ

i think this is a real chance to trip them up and show how they discriminate

lots of non-muslims should apply for this job.... i'm pretty much sure you can't discriminate a job application based on the individuals religious belief(especially if it the job involves no religious tasks like this one)

synagogues, jewish/christian schools, churches etc employ plenty of people not of that belief, however I've never seen an islamist organisation employ a non-muslim.... a remember a while back one mosque trustee that i know was heavily castigated for interviewing a hindu for a cleaner position
