Like, let me give you the example of what I mean.
When I broke up with my current ex-girlfriend who I had grown rather close to, it was because I had to and there was good reason behind it. However, that didn't really stop me from relishing the moment, and smiling and enjoying it when she broke down in tears. But yeah, she still had feelings for me for a while and it hurt, but at the end of the day we both grew tremendously from the relationship and we're both now still friends.
So yeah, obviously the looking forward to her hurt part was wrong, but putting that aside, given the outcome was there anything wrong with what I did? We both gained a lot from our time together and are better for the whole experience and separation, so I'd say no and I'm definitely looking forward to more such "mistakes" in the future if they can turn out so well.
