    Hello all,

Unsure how many of the old guard that I engaged with from a few years' ago are still here ... Below is a link to a new set of songs that were written over the course of my departure from the religion of Islam (and departure from its mystical Sufist offshoots), they express my ambivalence with the whole affair at a personal level but musically in a way you might also enjoy:

Wow, I honestly didn't expect what I've just heard. A lot of time, care and effort has gone into the production of that. it sounds beautiful and polished throughout. On first listen, there's something just about in every song that grabs you and begs for your return. My favourites are Division of Love, Apparition, and particularly Song of Songs (which seems to me to work as well as any sonnet or love song that I've heard in a while, even though that's probably not your intention).

The lead singer's voice is both quirky and beautiful. It reminds me of Röyksopp's singer of choice. And she's ace and absolutely unique (until today) IMO. How many of you is there in the band? How long have you been going, and how do you plan on taking over the world?

Overall though, fantastic job. I've not really managed to read too much into the lyrics yet, and marry your album to religion like it was designed to do, but I can officially confirm that your music is wonderful  Afro Afro dance

This is very good music, I'm feeling every track.  Can you tell us a bit about your musical inspiration?  Cheers.

Ah, always nice to feel the love from the CEMB. Out of all the spiritual forums I have participated in over the years, this one is most special to me, because of the people, their sense of humour and their positivity Smiley

Thanks arX, billy and musivore for the feedback, means a lot. The soundcloud previous offers fully downloadable mp3s (and it's already on spotify etc) so please download to your devices if you like it enough to carry around with you.

In terms of references to religion and mysticism (middle eastern in particular), those who know me would appreciate it's pretty coded and densely packed with different symbols from all kinds of places. But there is a clear message, one that should resonate with all ex-Muslims -- like a kind of ex-religious shahada I guess -- summed up in the lyrics for the 7th track, "Apparition":

"Leave infernal cult of falsehood, baby, and join a rock and roll band"

Basically that's what we wanted to do with this album: go on a electro-pop/rock and roll journey to find a "brighter new way for you and me", to rising up above the "Divisions of Love" (what are religions if not a means to divide human love up into little cultish tribes) Smiley

For what its worth, I liked those tracks a lot. The Electro - Rock genre is right up my street, I'm a big fan of the likes of Goldfrapp, for example. I very much like the edgyness of the lyrics as well. So much of modern music is boring because it's written by people that have had such comfortable lives that they don't have anything to tell us. You have something to say and it shows through in the quality.

Good stuff. I can imagine it in the soundtrack to something like Misfits.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

You are rather interesting. Chanced upon your posts whilst entering nerdy philosophical garbage into the search box of the forum. So what caused you to exile yourself
from the city of the divine?

Also, what's your intellectual secret? Continental philosophy?  Smiley

    answer to q1: love.

answer to q2: yeah, i did my hard time in derrida's penitentiary. i learnt all kinds of dirty tricks from those hustlers. it's come in handy, certainly in the face of love problems.
