    Science will continue to look for truth, answer questions, improve lives, and actually back that shit up, religion will continue to try and desperately convince us it should be equally valid...for some reason.

    Belief is real.

    The object of belief is not real.

    When people understand the two...the world will become a better place.

    Life is suffering.

    Life is Happiness.

    These are two contradictory views and both equally valid when you do not regard them as absolute states but as having a symbiotic relationship the significance of each which depends upon experiences, circumstances and personal resolve. Knowing that what is ultimately real is infact a tangible psychological state that can be relatively controlled is a liberating experience. Pretending that it is real, as real as the physical world around us, is dangerous. Therefore, I don't care that people believe God is real, because he isn't. What he is is a human construct reified by social insitutions and groups that serves as a coping mechanism. Realise this then  atleast one of the most important, if not the only, motivating factors for conflict will dissapear instantanteously and we will all be able to hold hands and sing 'All we are saying is give peace a chance.'

    According to wiki Belief is a psychological state which an individual holds conjuncture or premise to be true. This is why many Atheists disregard the term when it comes to faith.

    I disregard any statement of belief or faith based upon a physical (or supposed supernatural) phenomena when the best evidence and arguments availble are to the contrary.

    Belief and Faith are psychological states. In that they relate to personal experiences and feelings they are subjective states. In that they make claims about reality that are PROVEN to be evidentially and/or logically false they are delusional states.

    I don't think we have faith in science in the same way that people have faith in God. Indeed faith is generally regarded as "a good thing" in religion but in science as a very bad thing. We rather have confidence based on evidence and reason. Faith, in the religious sense, is surely belief without evidence and/or reason and perhaps even contrary to both. (Hence Douglas Adams' famous Electric Monk. A religious labour saving device designed to believe unbelievable things and "capable of believing things they wouldn't believe in Salt Lake City".)

    As for faith and knowledge, knowledge is information and skills acquired through experience or education, what is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information.

    Belief is a firmly held opinion or conviction that has no factual basis.

    To be honest, I'm a little confused about what exactly you are trying to say. You are asking questions the answers to which could be found in any decent dictionary and you don't seem to have offered any clear proposition for debate.

    On the issue of conflict between science and religion; I believe that conflict will sometimes arise but that any such conflict will be resolved in favour of science because evidence will always - eventually - trump dogma.

    No, you didn't say belief has been proven as fact you responded to my question of why it should be equally valid by saying because people believe god exists. I don't understand why a belief should be treated as equally valid to a fact. It can be entertained by all means but equal status? Why?

    I'm not disagreeing, I'm asking why we should? If I believe goblins are hiding under my bed and a doctor tells me I'm suffering delusions, should my belief in goblins be treated as equally valid to the doctor?

    I understand they believe it to be true, but believing something is true and insisting others treat it as true is asking to much. It is not equally valid.
