  • Do you have some Muslim things in your life still?
     OP - September 17, 2013, 04:17 PM

    I'm very interested to hear.
Do you have some things left from your journey in Islam, for example:

-You still use some Islamic clothing
    -You don't eat pork
    -You are little homophobic
-You still say stuff like 'God Willing', 'God Knows Best', 'I Promise by God's Name' etc. ?
-You have Arabic matts on your house
-You still enter the bathroom with your left leg or exit with your right
-You grow beard like you was taught to grow it
-You avoid alcohol (actually this is very good teaching of Islam)
    -You don't like music anymore
-You wait till marriage to have sex

    And so on.

I ask many stupid questions frequently.
I am curious, that's why I ask many questions.
I am overly curious, that's why I ask stupid questions.
I lack patience, that's why I ask frequently.
So forgive me and answer me Smiley

    I can't help with the following;

I seldom drink alcahol. It's for pragmatic reasons but no doubt Islam instilled within me a certain degree of responsibility and self-regulation, which is a fantastic thing.

I do not eat pork. Okay, I've had pepperoni pizza ( and I'm not talking about the substitute) but that was only on seperate occasions.

I still give salam, say 'Allah hafiz', shake hands, say 'insh'allah' and 'mash'allah'. Just because I no longer believe doesn't mean I have to be a dickhead. It's called respect and I believe if someone is genuine and sincere in what they do then returning the salaam or polite term doesn't do anyone harm.

Though, on several occasions when I did believe I remember when my uncles and elders  would say 'Assalam'allaikum' replying  with 'What's up!?'

Do you have some things left from your journey in Islam, for example:

or the journey of being a Pakistani in England.

    Quote
-You still use some Islamic clothing

Islamic? No but shalwar kammez yes. When my friends and I wore our cultural garbs say on Eid at age 12-16, I would be hugely embarrassed to come across English friends, by my early twenties, my friends would be embarrassed but I was cool with it. No lie, walked into a nightclub once age 26ish lol.

    Quote
    -You don't eat pork

Never ever. Told of a once upon a time employess, another ex muslim for eating a mcdonalds ting in morn, he took one more bite and then never ate pig in front of me. As an atheist 22 in Sweden, having dinner with then girlfriend and her friend, my girlfriend ordered a pig dish, (she had stopped eating pig when in England with me), I looked at her and said - You going to eat that? - she changed her order. Her friend looked at her in disgust and said - Are you going to listen to him lol

Yes I know it is irrational and like most muslims it is sorta cultural to partake in sex, drugs and rock and roll, but bacon flavour crisps, no thanks.

    Quote
    -You are little homophobic

Well I could start of a thread about this - but I think one can have a view that 'promoting' gaiety to all and sundry, is perhaps not quite the right thing. Like the tail wagging the dog.No problem with equal rights, met lesbians, been to Asian gay clubs - looked at two guys French kissing and tight there and then knew I was heterosexual (I knew anyway) perhaps their is natural aversion in some straight men - why chase up blind alleys?

    Quote
-You still say stuff like 'God Willing', 'God Knows Best', 'I Promise by God's Name' etc. ?

never did the promise one even as a kid, or god knows best. Insha-allah a bit, salaam w/s, all the time. Sneezing always - Similar to English once Christian saying Goodbye and Bless you.

    Quote
You have Arabic matts on your house

    NA

    Quote
-You still enter the bathroom with your left leg or exit with your right

    Nah.

    Quote
-You grow beard like you was taught to grow it

Only grew my first real beard this year and it was indeed a lazy let it grow thing which corresponds to a muslim beard. My friends were surprised.

    Quote
-You avoid alcohol (actually this is very good teaching of Islam)

Don't avoid, don't drink it, maybe once or twice a year. As a clubber drank every weekend. The change that happens though. At twelve at the local fair noticed a man drinking from a can in a brown paper bag, I being inquisitive (curiosity really did kill the cat) asked what the score was - to be met with - it sharaab - I was like AMMMMAAAA!!. Fast forward ten years, same fairs, mees swigging from a cider bottle lol.

    Quote
    -You don't like music anymore

As a kid not allowed to listen to music, could not buy Smash Hits, could not a picture of Kim Wilde on my bedroom wall (there were real tears), my first album had to kept at my Sikh neighbours house.

I don't trust myself to answer the last question lol.

I am my own worst enemy and best friend, itsa bit of a squeeze in a three-quarter bed, tho. Unhinged!? If I was a dog I would be having kittens, that is unhinged. Footloose n fancy free, forced to fit, fated to fly. One or 2 words, 3 and 3/thirds, looking comely but lonely, till I made them homely.D

Hang on this sounds like questions orientated to converts/reverts.

ETA - I don't hate pigs, the fact that I don't eat them means they probably like me. Muslims - A Pig's best friend.  Cheesy I do like that one, even if I say so myself.

And Babe - the movie about the sheepdog pig, absolutely love it, gets me emotional every time he walks those sheep into the pen, with the crowd laughing at his master, the farmer. Fackin good movie.

Why do Muslims act like pigs are the plague anyway, they were told not to eat it, not to despise it.

It wasn't a response to the initial post of the thread, it was in reference to devilsadvokat's comment saying he doesn't hate pigs, which led me to think, why do muslims act like pigs must be hated, they were told not to eat them, not to despise them. Am I still talking jibberish?

I love my pork. Afro The day I can no longer enjoy sausage, bacon, pepperoni, and all the lovely lovely pork dishes out there, is the day I no longer wish to live in this world.

I stopped eating pork before I was muslim when I was 18 when I found out that pig skin and flesh is really similar to human flesh and that its known to taste and smell like humans with cannibal tribes reffering to human meat as the big pig.

Yeah I heard human is similar in taste. Makes no difference to me, I don't suddenly start imagining anyone who passes me on the street in a sandwich.

Sorry to take over your post with randomosity Siunaa.

I'll redirect...Many people seem like they're in a rush to break the chains so they do everything they couldn't do before. I wonder if many people keep the hygiene routines from Islam....i.e. still wash up after using the toilet.

The fact that pigs taste like humans and their  organs can be/are be used for humans, parts of them anyway did elicit a wry grin at the Islamic notion of people who were turned to pigs (and monkeys) though I presume that was a one time event.

I have come across couples, one Pakistani, usually the male and the other English (nowadays it is polish/Lithuanian/Czech)who have kids when relatively younger and after a few years split up sorta acrimoniously. Sometimes I knoe these girls well enough for them to tell me that just to spite the kids dad, they would feed the child sausages. You gotta laugh.

rubbish devil.,     that is not fact..

pigs DO NOT  taste like humans and their  organs CAN NOT  be  used for humans directly unless they are cloned with human genes..  That is still experimental Xenotransplantation medicine.. Looong way to go..

Lol - have you ate human? How do you know it doesn't like human? FFS you are highly strung, do you think the 'fact' that it does taste like human give credence in way, shape and form to islam??

Ok not organs, yet but of all the animal kingdom the pig skin and pig valves have been used in human transplants. And will your indignation dissipate when they do manage to?

If I only had the option of eating the dead to survive, I'd do it. I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but you know what? You and me ever got left on a deserted island and I die, I have no problem with you eating me so you don't also die.
