The reason for belief being the ultimate get out of "jail free" card is our sins will be taken up by Christ. There is also a transformation process too.

I can endow you with that transformation process in its ineffable entirety. May I tie your hands behind your back and imbibe some of that white (although by all appearances red) bitter fluid that sustains the crevices of your uppermost quarter? I've always tempestuously desired aural, physical and verbal gratification from the uproariously shrill american christian. Jouissance not pleasure, you understand. We must embark on such a venture for the west to marry the east — at which point both parties will have augmented their sense of non-ideological self and will have reacquired the multiplicities of a lost totality.

Will you strain your larynx for me?

And what if he denied you grace or salvation or whatever the hell it is you're after because of the misunderstanding?

Achilles is a demi-god. He was at the battle of Troy. This is part of his mythos. The story of Troy states Achilles died there. If I use the story of Troy to validate this mythos, as you did with the Bible, Greek religion is true. Also add in the Iliad, as Odysseus was at Troy, along with his mythos. Also Troy is directly link with Roman foundation mythos, Romulus and Remus, so by extension again validates Greek mythology as Roman mythology is from the Etruscans which was assimilated Greek mythology. Greek -> Etruscan -> Roman. Judaism -> Christianity -> Islam. The Bible states Jesus is the son of God but do we have an evidence outside this story that this is true? Just as I am using the story of Troy to validate the claims that Achilles is a demi-god you are using the Bible to validate Jesus' claims. You are using a double-standard over which text is valid evidence or not. Im just trying to point this out.

Also keep in mind that you are taking archaeological findings out of context. Yes some finding validate stories of the Bible but this does not validate the claims of the Bible wholesale. Findings only validate that which it claims. That X is true for time Y, it does not validate A is true for time B. David does not validate the Conquest of Canaan for example.

Bogart is there any evidence Achilles or anyone in the Greek myths did exist?

    Nope.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Great. So I ask you again, why should a believing Sikh—who had spent his entire life sincerely believing in and worshipping their idea of god, only to find out that he was actually wrong and that God was really a Christian and that Sikhs would be subjected to judgment—conclude that God is actually loving and compassionate? Would not God prove himself to be the opposite of loving and compassionate by rejecting that Sikh’s sincere devotion?

    Quote
It was six men of Indostan
    To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
    That each by observation
    Might satisfy his mind.

    The First approach'd the Elephant,
    And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
    At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
    Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
    To me 'tis mighty clear
    This wonder of an Elephant
    Is very like a spear!"

    The Third approached the animal,
    And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
    Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
    Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out his eager hand,
    And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
    Is mighty plain," quoth he,
    "'Tis clear enough the Elephant
    Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
    Said: "E'en the blindest man
    Can tell what this resembles most;
    Deny the fact who can,
    This marvel of an Elephant
    Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
    About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
    That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
    Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
    Disputed loud and long,
    Each in his own opinion
    Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

    MORAL.

    So oft in theologic wars,
    The disputants, I ween,
    Rail on in utter ignorance
    Of what each other mean,
    And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Because even the Sikh has sinned. According to Christianity unbelievers will be judged according to their sins and it will be up to God who makes it into heaven.

Sin really is religion's main angle, isn't it. They are selling you a product by creating this artificial need. "Step right up ladies and gentlemen, you've got sins, we've got forgiveness. Doesn't matter who you are, ladies and gentlemen, we know you've done something. You, sir. Yes, you in the striped shirt. You look like a sinner. Come on, what have you got? A little greed maybe? Maybe a little lust. Yeah, that's it, lust. You checked out that pretty little lady at the pretzel stand a little too long there, didn't you? A naughty one you are. Well, you're in luck sir, we've got salvation right here. And our salvation isn't like our competitors' salvation, no sir. This is guaranteed by Jesus H. Christ himself. Yes sir, I tell you, our salvation is the best in town. Often imitated, never duplicated. What's that? You say you can't feel any salvation? Well all you've got to do is believe that it works and it will. Of course, you'll never be able to actually observe it working, but trust us, we do this all the time. We're professionals, sir. Best around I tell ya. Oh, and by the way, you should buy our books, help pay our bills, and help support these nice old men in funny clothes who help us spread the word. Sure sir, 20 dollars a week is plenty. But of course, the more the better. You're a good man, sir. Fine gentleman indeed. God loves you. Tell your friends about us."

I think this is what puts me off Christianity most of all (apart from the obvious fact that it is all just ridiculous self-refuting bullshit), the persistent need to find the bad in people and to reduce and debase oneself so tragically. So weak and undignified. It's a philosophy for losers and pessimists.

Quite like Ishina's comment. One of the things that frustrates the religious in Europe is that we don't tend to believe in sin. Which isn't to say no belief in right or wrong, but sin as a concept is a fairy-tale. Then they resort to threats of hell and that's all they have even when they know you don't believe in hell.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

On the one hand, you need to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour. Acknowledge him as god, the way the truth and the light. Anyone who fails to do this will burn forever. Then you say this same individual does not demand we worship him to get into heaven. Because obviously when you make it clear the only other alternative is eternal torment, that's not like blackmail or anything.

    That's where you contradicted yourself.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Well they have to convince you that you are a no good sinner so that you'll buy their magical sin-removing product. It's like the vacuum cleaner salesman who has to convince you that your carpets are dirty.
