Ah. He is missed. I had to stop after the first one, because children wake up at ungodly hours and rob one of sleep, so I must get mine while they get theirs.

I will watch the rest tomorrow.

I will say, I kept waiting for him, at the beginning of the first one, to say something about Stockholm Syndrome. It would tie in nicely.

    Much appreciated!

Hope you got plenty of sleep.

    No worries.

I listened to most of the middle one. Arabic words with a British accent! A first, for me. I really could never stand Abu Hurairah. Funny to me, how an Abu Hurairah Hadith is what he narrated. I really think I should buy some Hitchens in print. The dinner story is hilarious, and very typical of Evangelicals here.
    Thanks!

I probably won't listen to the Christianity vid. The Bible was my first love, and my first casualty. I tore it apart (not literally) and left it behind long ago.

I've read the King James a couple of times, along with other religious texts including the quran with a number of hadiths (not all). I can appreciate them as ancient texts and gain a fascinating insight into ancient people, and indeed you can't understand western history without the bible but for me personally I could never read any of them with a shred of belief. I enjoy stories, always have. But actually taking the myths seriously? Couldn't do it.

I tried. I even read all through the so and so begot so and so parts of the Bible as a child. I think the stories should be required reading, because they are so often referenced in English lit.
But the Quran. The more I knew, the more I heard about how what I was reading in English was mistranslated. How the original Classical Arabi was full of babble. There is a brilliant guy in Germany who wrote a great book on the linguistic origins, I waited years for his work to be translated into English and then when it was the price was too high for me. By Cristoph Luxenberg. So I still haven't read it. But I am patient.

The bible was the first holy book I read, which was out of curiosity really. I read it when I was 122, and often had to force myself to read it just so I could say I could. The quran was even worse lol, but again I wanted to say I'd read it so I did. When I got older I think I began to appreciate them a bit more. I actually find I['m more fond of religious texts from religions with multiple gods, it tends to be more interesting. The Eddas are a good example of that, depending which translation you get.

I was always told the basics of religion, there's a man in the sky watching everything you do, hell, things like that. I think it was my upbringing that had a real inspiration on reading the texts myself to see what was there. I found bullshit. Interesting bullshit, but bullshit all the same.

What is the Eddas? Nevermind. I never Google when I should. Have you read Clarissa Pinkola Estes "Women Who Run With The Wolves?" It's a controversial interpretation of old folk tales. I have never read anything on the Eddas. I need to expand my library.

Lol I meant to say I first read the bible when I was 12, not 122. The Poetic Eddas are collections of myths and stories from the native Germanic faiths. Odin/Wotan, Thor, Loki, Frigga, etc. Fascinating stories. They're currently treated as holy by people who still follow those gods. I actually have a friend who's an Odinist. I once asked him if he really believed the gods existed, he got slightly defensive and said "There's as much proof for my gods as there is any other god".  Cheesy Priceless.

I just figured, when I saw the 122, that either there was a typo, or you were claiming vampiric long life.
