Well she was an anime nerd of sorts in the mid-to-late 90s, when I was really little, and I had to endure all kinds of crap.  Sailor Moon, Slayers, other stuff I can't remember at the moment.  Probably a big reason I can't stand anime...

You're definitely missing out! I'm 19 and I still enjoy anime, however I don't watch it as much as I used to. There are some great anime shows that are still appealing to non-anime fans. Death Note is a perfect example; you should definitely watch that show but avoid the movie. It's shit.

Well I'm only 24 so I grew up during the anime and Japan craze here in the states (the 90s and really early 2000s), and I've seen my fair share of anime.  They always have really shoddy animation, bad artwork and ridiculous plotlines and overall they all seem really juvenile.

^ I guess it's hard finding an anime show that has great artwork + an interesting story line, however they exist! Death Note is one and I know you'll love the show. At least read the plot lol

Maybe but I'm used to anime being a medium with three frames of animation, juvenile writing and plots, disturbing sexualization of teenagers, and giant robots, just not the cool Star Wars style kinds...

Tongue I guess I just find Japanese culture utterly insane, so a lot of stuff from there just never appeals to me.  Except Nintendo and Teriyaki dishes

    Japanese culture is definitely... Unique.
Other than teryaki and nintendo, great things came out of that country like Tamagotchi and back scratcher's t-shirts Smiley

I was never able to keep Tamagotchis alive Tongue

And I don't know, between the potty training fetishes and virtual girlfriends (getting laid is a rare thing in Japan now!) and bizarre scat porn, every school girl dressing like a sailor, it's a really scary country.

I've always ended up losing my Tamagotchis instead :(
It sure is a scary country, however I'm tempted to visit. It's shocking to hear that young people in Japan stopped having sex and the fertility rate is drastically declining. Not good at all. I've always considered Japan to be one of the most horniest country in the world Tongue Their sex industry is mad! I mean, they even have virtual sex machines, numerous 'love' hotels and used schoolgirl panties vending machines :/

I had Tamagotchis, some knock-offs, and the first Pikachu one.  I think there was even a Final Fantasy one back in the day.  I forget which one of them the animals would die if you forgot to feed them.

Nah, the decline in birthrates and fertility is absolutely a good thing, especially in Japan's context, but not having sex is a totally different matter.  It's just downright creepy that people are not interested in sex at all there, and it makes the place sound like some dry, sterile dystopian nightmare! At least I'd be depressed without sex.

I mean, yes I'm exaggerating to an extent when I call Japan scary, and I can't wait to visit it (the closest I've ever come to is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Tokyo,_Los_Angeles), but it is a really weird culture.

Complex, mature storyline and characters are definitely the strong points of Monster, although it is rather a long series (although not the longest  wacko ) to invest your time in.

We definitely have Chinese and Koreans practically everywhere in Canada but hardly any Japanese where I'm from (central Canada). There is a larger Japanese community in Western Canada, particularly in Vancouver. I don't even think I ever met a Japanese person :p

Interesting.  I live in North OC and go into LA all the time, so I've grown up around asians, mostly Vietnamese and Japanese, but everyone from Cambodians to Pakistanis.  SoCal is full of asian communities, it's really diverse and I always liked it for that reason.

Is it like Dragon Ball Z where you have something like 40 episodes walking up a hill?

Never read the manga. I'd assume with such a long series that the anime would contain everything from the manga, but not really sure.

Lol, no. Something is always happening.

Funny you mention DBZ because that too is one of the only other anime's I've watched all the way through (can count these on my hands), although in this case more due to nostalgia.  Tongue

I live in a very small city which isn't diverse. The only visible minority group would be the Koreans and Chinese. It's rare to find Arabs, black people and especially natives even though there is a nearby native reserve. One of the reasons why I don't really like my city Undecided

@asbie - I've also watched DBZ all the way through but because I was heart broken that the franchise would end after GT, I sort of saved the entire GT series for later. I still haven't watched it lol. Have you watched Dragon Ball as well?

Hmm, well I remember TheAmazingAtheist, who's a big fan of that cartoon saying this on some list detailing "It's so bad it's good" stuff, alongside Commando (one of my favorite films) and Jason X, saying its like a retarded soap opera where one has to watch 40 episodes of people climbing a hill.  I only saw some of it once 13 years ago.

Cheesy I watched Dragon Ball and DBZ when I was a child and I enjoyed it 100%. But I'm sure if I started watching DB or DBZ at this age, I would have complained a lot. It's really just enjoyable for kids.

Animes are not for me . Im a manga guy all the way because anime versions has simply too much filler episodes , long time to finish plus that damn censoring leaving out all the original stuff from the manga .
I always wait every wednesday for the weekly release of naruto , bleach and beelzebub currently . Favourite will always be death note first .  Next is psyren . Psyren got good plot .

I desperately hate fillers so I would typically skip them :p I watched Bleach a few years ago but I stopped during the Bounts episodes. My God, it was torturous to watch. I'm somewhat behind Naruto though. How is Beelzebub by the way? I've always seen advertisements about that show but never had a chance to watch an episode of it

Oh I did like it at first.  I remember kinda liking a few animes when I was a kid, like Pokemon (which apparently is still on, lol?) and DragonBall Z and a few others.  The first anime I think I ever saw was Sailor Moon, and I liked that when I was really little (I think this was around 1994 or 5).  This was back when every gaming location and store had an anime and Japan section (I feel really old, this was over 10 years ago...) and video games, outside PC gaming anyway, were associated with Japan and anime.  Some of my favorite RPGs are animeish also, admittedly.

I technically live outside it, but it's only a few minutes away by car and like 15 minutes walking distance, and to be honest, I had no idea it was full of Muslims and especially Arabs until recently finding my area on Wikipedia Tongue  It's actually quite nice, and it's really cool going into the Arab supermarkets.  Apparently though the area is a bit prudish, if Wikipedia is to be believed:

I was born in 89.  This is all 90s stuff from my memory.  I actually think Sailor Moon came out here in the states around this time.  I remember my sister making us all watch anime in the early 90s, like 94 or 95, and I remember it becoming a big craze a little later, around the late 90s.  I even remember asian channels popping up just so people could watch anime not released here in the states.

There was once a normal-sized Arab community in my city. But during 2006, the majority left so great restaurants and stores were closed. All that's left are creepy shisha bars which are.... Creepy. Not only they're located in sketchy areas in London but they're never girls, dancers or music. Just dark rooms with disco lights and grown ass men who stare no
