One of the things that struck me as odd about the 'scientific miracle' convolution is that not one of its advocates can reconcile Islam with human evolution.

I found this article which claims (through some more semantic gymnastics and post-hoc rationalisation) that that argument doesn't hold much water (pun intentional). I think that site in particular would be considered 'kafir' by most Muslims since they reject the hadith, but in any case I'm curious to see what CEMB and individuals with a decent command of Arabic think (I can't say a unanimous cry of 'bullshit!' would surprise me).

    Quote
(24:45 and other places) Dabbah is defined as anything which has life and spontaneous movement. This includes all animals, including man, and every other one of the eight kingdoms of life (bacteria, protozoa, etc.) excluding fungi and plants.

Is it just me, or does it seem as though our author has never heard of 'common descent' before?

    Quote
Muslims must understand that religious ideas can be interpreted in different ways in order to match the changing times. There is only one absolute truth, but as long as it does not contradict whatever truth exists in a certain point in time, the latter is acceptable.

    Ho hum

Apologies if repost. It's a lengthy piece of writing most likely riddled with Texas sharpshooter bullet holes so be warned.

TMM presented the argument that evolution was true for all life but humans. If you compare his argument with the one you linked you will see both use some of the same source points but have radically different interpretations.

My conclusion regarding creation based on the Quran is thus. The text is vague enough that many different interpretations can be reached. Many of which require other sources which are human in origin rather than divine. One could argue creationism is true, one could argue evolution is true, one could argue a mix of both is true. One could make this argument for many religions as each presents a vague notion of creation using literary devices rather than direct scientific definitions. People jump to quickly to the metaphysical bandwagon in order to substantiate their claims.

If you actually look through the thread bogart just provided (which is sadly locked so I can't edit my typos) you'll see on more than one page me giving ways to make it compatible with islam.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
