Iranian poet executed for 'waging war on God' says news from Iran

    Quote
An Arab-Iranian poet and human rights activist, Hashem Shaabani, has been executed for being an "enemy of God" and threatening national security, according to local human rights groups. Shaabani and a man named Hadi Rashedi were hanged in unidentified prison on January 27, rights groups have said.

Shaabani, who spoke out against the treatment of ethnic Arabs in the province of Khuzestan, had been in prison since February or March 2011 after being arrested for being a Mohareb, or "enemy of God". Last July, the Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal found Shaabani and 13 other people guilty of "waging war on God" and spreading "corruption on earth".

The 32-year-old was the founder of Dialogue Institute and was popular for his Arabic and Persian poems. In 2012, he appeared on Iran's state-owned Press TV, where human rights groups say he was forced to confess to "separatist terrorism".

According to BBC Persian, officials from the Ministry of Information informed the condemned men's families that they had been hanged, and they would be subsequently informed on the location of the men's burial site.

Shaabani was moved from the area to an unspecified prison before his death, it was reported.

Iran executed 40 people over two weeks of that month, according to Amnesty International. According to the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre (IHRDC) more than 300 people have been executed since Hasan Rouhani became president in August.

Iran has carried out a total of 40 executions since the beginning of 2014,_amnesty international

    Quote
Iran has carried out a total of 40 executions since the beginning of 2014, with at least 33 carried out in the past week alone, said Amnesty International today.  “The spike in the number of executions carried out so far this month in Iran is alarming. The Iranian authorities’ attempts to change their international image are meaningless if at the same time executions continue to increase”, said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.....
    Quote
Since the beginning of 2014, Amnesty International has recorded 21 executions which were officially acknowledged by the Iranian authorities, as well as 19 additional executions reported through reliable sources.

In the week since 9 January 2014 more officially acknowledged executions were carried out in Iran than during the whole month of January 2013.  At least one public execution was carried out on 14 January 2014 in Saveh, Markazi Province, northern Iran, of an individual convicted of murder.

In Islam, the rogues in power kill in any one and every one who they think are opposing their policies.  Simple way to execute and eliminate your opponents in Islam is   "ACCUSE THEM THEY ARE WAGING WAR AGAINST ALLAH/god bullshit and kill them.

This is not the first year in recent memory that they did this before Nowruz.

This is horrible. Reminds me of Gatestone Institute's Article on 5th February, about former Ayatollah Hossein-Kazamani Boroujerdi who has served 8 years of an 11-year-sentence in Iran, simply because he advocated separation of state and religion after seeing all the despicable human-rights abuses and dangers of political Islam.  The article itself carries a list of prisoners and their health conditions, plus 'reasons' for imprisonment in Iran's prisons... the first time I read that article and what he suffered, suffice to say, I really could not help reacting.

This also reminds me of Syrian civilians having to choose between Bashir Assad (Shia) and the Sunni rebels who have stated that they will establish Islamic rule according to the Qur'an, where there will be no democracy.

That is worth linking to. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The tactics used by the authorities are truly horrific.
I know they also inject political dissidents with heroin, to create an addiction that then discredits them and their ideals.

That article made me teary, and I'm hoping he hangs in there. I was not sure whether to make that article into a new thread, being new here and all. And that reminds me, I have to go introduce myself soon-ish. And figure out how and whether I can insert links to posts. I took long enough to learn to use a computer that was not a desktop, and I cannot use an Ipad. Man, I'm terrible at technology!  Cheesy

Thanks for the greetings, yeezeevee.  I've been lurking around here for a while, finally mustered up the courage to join.  "Straw that broke the camel's back" syndrome, which will eventually be explained in the intro.  I happen to have an interest in international news, and a penchant for research, amongst other things on my goal of to-do this year.

Googling "jihadwatch death compensation" gives a 1st November 2010 link delineating the worth of a Muslims Vs other groups, for the topic of Diyya. Hilariously grotesque.  But first, I have to sleep.  It's almost midnight here.

So a single man can wage war on god? I thought he was all powerful and nothing happens except by his will?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

The sentence is really an excuse, a catch-all for issues of national security. If you oppose the Iranian dictatorship, or act contrary to it's instruction, then you are in effect opposing Allah, as the Ayatollah is sanctioned/chosen/predestined by Allah.
Any dissident, any Sunni, any artist outside of making mosaics, falls into this category.
