Jealousy: Why do people get jealous?

If somebody gets something or otherwise achieves something, why does that make you feel bad? And, if that person loses that something, why does that make you feel good? What did you benefit from him losing it?

Imo people get jealous because they simply are not interested in their own life.
They think if they have what others have, they will live a happy life.
It's all about comparing yourself to others and trying to measure your happiness through it.

"What we benefit when a person loses something?"
A sense of security. We feel better about ourselves.
