^Makes sense. It's absurd how some people can argue they're being oppressed because they're not allowed to have a parallel legal system; that's basically the apartheid they always accuse Israel of. I don't get why such people don't just move to a shari'ah state wacko

One reason is because Islamists have been active for decades and because of soft multiculturalism and cultural relativism it wasn't challenged.

Another reason is that British Islam is defined by Pakistani Islam because Pakistanis are the largest Muslim group and Pakistani Islam has some very insular and extremist interpretations.

Add in Salafi / Wahaabism and you get the picture.

Yup, basically the source of the Islam in the UK; Pakistani not Turkish as in the Netherlands and Germany; and the pussyfooting of society around Islam (saying its definitely not bad and calling criticism of the ideology as Islamophobia). This joined by an overriding political correctness in the UK about everything with everybody seeming to be so damned sensitive about 'racist language' creates a melting-pot of hush-hush and lack of opposition to Islamic issues.

To be honest with you I think that people should be offended from time to time to keep them questioning of themselves, and also if people are not allowed to say the unsayable then resentment builds increasing the risk of huge civil unrest eventually. I don't think it is very healthy for a society to take notice of comments made by people like Jeremy Clarkson saying the word nigger. To be honest with you if black people don't like the term they shouldn't use it either and should encourage black people not to use it.

So, this song came on my play list this morning on my commute to work, and I unfortunately immediately associated it with that grotesque image of Mo Ansar attempting to dance. After spitting the tiny bit of vomit out of my mouth, it dawned on me that the only instruments I could hear in the song were percussion instruments. I even know staunch salafis who allow listening to percussion instruments on special occasions because there is a hadith where the prophet allowed them (in the courtyard of the mosque actually, played by Ethiopians.) I wonder if that was taken into consideration when that song was chosen to show how “open” Muslims can be to the idea of fun. I’m inclined to believe it must have been.

I thought dancing and singing was haram, but Islam is a very liberal religion.

    Quote
Islam is a religion of moderation; it does not prevent singing and dancing, but it forbids anything that stimulates people’s desires, whether it be among men or women. Women are supposed to observe good manners if they dance in front of other women. They should not exceed the limits by doing anything that stimulates desires and incites evil. There are many cases where women are tempted by other women.

However, if a woman dances in front of her husband, then there is no restriction, as it is a way of cementing relations between spouses – and this a key pillar of establishing the Muslim family.

Oh thank God I'm not the only one visualizing Mo Ansar dancing when that song comes on. Grin

There's some sort of stringy melody thing in there, but its more subtle than most songs.
