These MORONS look like they're a few rashes short of a full english.

A teenage girl and 39-year old man who desecrated an Edinburgh mosque by attacking it with strips of bacon have both been jailed.

Chelsea Lambie, 18, from Paisley, was sentenced to 12 months and Douglas Cruikshank, from Galashiels, to nine months.

They attached bacon to door handles and threw strips inside Edinburgh's Central Mosque on 31 January 2013.

Cruikshank pled guilty. Lambie was found guilty after denying the charges.

Sheriff Alistair Noble, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, said: "It does not seem to me there is any way to deal with this case other than by custody."

During an earlier trial, the court heard a Blackberry mobile phone was found in Lambie's clothing when she was arrested at her boyfriend's house.

Messages sent on 31 January included: "Going to invade a mosque, because we can go where we want."

A text to the phone asked: "What you do last night?" The reply was: "Went to the mosque in Edinburgh and wrapped bacon round the door handles, opened the door and threw it in ha ha ha."

TIL that "we go where we want" is a slogan - shortened to 5w despite having 4 words beginning with w - for these and similar muppets. Charming.

Sure it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but 12 months? That's a lot for throwing food at a mosque.

Anyone else have a problem with the word "attacking"? They attacked a mosque with food?

It was the intent behind the act and the potential furore it would cause. BTW wasn't it 9 months? I'm sure there would be a chance to appeal/parole half way through. Additionally, I think at least one of the members is part of the SDL and therefore there may be other convictions that may've factored into the sentencing.

Maybe not attacking QSE, but they certainly weren't decorating it. I understand the use of the word 'attack'. Just as anyone would pelt a house with eggs.

If they threw eggs rather than bacon would they get a shorter sentence? If so, than I demand food vandalism equality!

It's scary to think, but what if this had been done in a Muslim country, what would be the punishment? Is it death due to blasphemy?  wacko
  • Morons, Bacon and Mosques.

It was not committed in a Muslim country though was it? It was committed by a couple of idiots, perhaps ideologically driven, targeting a place of worship with the intent of provoking offence and who knows what else via using a food item forbidden and considered unholy by the targeted group. That you do not consider it offensive is irrelevant, the morons knew what they were getting themselves into and no doubt both the prosecution and judge will have further information on the background to these characters to inform their charges/sentencing. Hopefully this will provide food for thought for any knuckle draggers out there. If you want to make a legitimate, reasoned criticism of Islam there are better ways to do it than disposing of bacon within a mosque, just don't be butt hurt if you're convicted if you take the dumbass option.

I understand what you're saying. The point was obviously to harass the worshippers, I understand that, and I also understand the concept of desecration. I just wouldn't use the word "attack".

These people mentioned above dont deserve prison, some other kind of punishment like labour or a fine, it's not the same as a violent "islamophobic" attack, just a very silly prank..
  • Morons, Bacon and Mosques.

If you hype things up too much and give prison and court time to these people and also media attention I actually think that it might make things worse. Muslims feel attacked and thus do other equally stupid things.

Heck if someone put dog meat somewhere I frequent, I wouldn't say anything. I would only say something if someone threw a brick.

It shouldn't have even gone to court in my opinion. Muslims shouldn't make a fuss with this stuff, don't pay attention and attention seekers may go away and people do not have a right not to be offended. If the attack had been with a knife fair enough but it isn't.

"Don't pay attention" only works when your opponents aren't determined to have a scrap. Let's suppose that the users of the Edinburgh mosque showed the magnanimity you suggest, and refused to report the issue when it happened - what would that have changed?

There may be no such thing as a right not to be offended, but then there's no such thing as a right to cause a public order offence with impunity either. I'm no lawyer, but I'm fairly sure that it's the latter with which these people have been charged and convicted.

I'm fully aware of that Toor. I just don't think reporting things all the time necessarily helps the situation. If it was happening again and again and again (it might have been but haven't heard this) then fair enough report it to the police but if it is a one off then might be better not to report it, not give these people attention and thus not validate them giving them 15 minutes of fame.

there was a story about a Muslim lady who lived in a nice middle class area of Yorkshire who awoke one day to find a rotting pigs head outside her home. I don't think stuff like that should be played down

    'they'

that word and how it is used is so redolent of collectivising in a bad way.

This is not acceptable on this forum, unless your articulating it would be combined with introspection of how you can overcome it.

Trust me I do introspect on how I can overcome it, just have had bad experiences with my boyfriends parents. I do talk to Muslims as well, its just I find that I only trust after figuring out whether they are nominally Muslim. I have a tainted view of things.
