    No I think I must have treated it as if they were given the list, it looks nigh on impossible to do without that piece of information.

    Remind me to introduce you to Knights and Knaves at a later date. It's a series of puzzles (imo) much harder than this one.

    By the way, in the interview for my current job, I was asked how many quarters it would take to stack up a tower the height of the Empire State Building. I was hundreds of dollars short.

    Google tells me that the building is 448 metres high and the representative quarter is 1.75mm thick.  So, 448/1.75... 256,000 quarters?

    There is another method which involves knowing that v=πr^2 (h/3) for a cone, but I'm not sure if this method is interview-friendly. However, this is a more realistic approach.

    Well, that's the thing. I wasn't allowed to look up anything, so I had to estimate the height of the building (and we use feet because we're not all smart like you) and estimate the width of a quarter and just work my way up and I think I made just a tall office building.
