I renounced my faith to become a kafir,

Yes, I like to meditate atleast twice a day.

Typically I'd do it for the first 10 minutes right before the complete sunrise outside and then the 10mins after sunset outside as well.

I've only ever tried the breathing meditation and willpower meditation and it's fine with me so far cos they've proven sufficient, it really helps as an anti-depressant and to get my mind through all the rough and discriminative criticism I go through as an ex-muslim...

I would recommend them both! If you've got any good methods I'd love to know about them and try them out too.  Smiley

Theravada Buddhist meditation is the most atheistic form of traditional meditation. Mahayana Buddhism and Hinduism focuses on deities.

Ajahn Brahm has good youtube clips on meditation. I don't know anyone who hasn't found him endearing.

Vipassana meditation is probably what's most compatible with modern society. The methods are available online. You don't have to focus on your breath; you can focus on whatever works- in my case it was staring at the floor with my eyes open, and memories lost from 15 years ago started spontaneously arising. Amazing.

Didn't help me with anxiety though. The moment I returned to the real world I was more sensitive than before, not helping my work performance at all. I don't do it anymore.

When someone I know did Sufi meditation in Iran, she'd be told to focus on Ali's sword. Even when Islam tries to borrow the calming methods of peaceful religions it has to associate them with tools of violence and killing.
