Why is it considered Haram? Do muslims eat other animals that live the same way as pigs? Are the reasons for it being haram been scientifically proven? I asked my mum why pork was considered haram, she said "because pig is the most filthy animal who sleeps with any family member while other animals don't"

    Bad news is:
You cannot make people like, love, understand, validate,
accept, or be nice to you. You can't control them either.
    Good news is:
    It doesn't matter.

Lol? To my knowledge it's because pigs really like mud baths and normally eat fairly unsanitary food(garbage and the type) while other animals(cows and the sort) are said to eat grass and stuff. Other rumors are that they eat their own crap and don't get digested.

Well Muhammad had to cater to the Jews to get followers. That is one little theory I have (pork is banned in the Torah/Old Testament together with shellfish and wearing of garment made by mixed materials and a lot of other stuff).

Also pig meat is prone to Trichinosis and it easily gets bad, probably faster than other meats in the desert heat.

Some also says it is because pigs are "human-like" and they scream like humans when slaughtered (!).

That is the most false thing ever!

Pigs are actually quite clean, just have to keep them cool with an alternate cooling source than their defecate.

    Myth—Pigs are dirty.

Fact—Pigs are actually one of the cleanest farm animals if given adequate space. They will sleep one area and defecate in another. It’s only when temperatures get too warm that they try to cool off by selecting a wet, muddy spot to lay in.

    Also many animals are incestuous!

    Quote
Many mammal species, including humanity's closest primate relatives, tend to avoid mating with close relatives, especially if there are alternative partners available.[114] However, some chimpanzees have been recorded attempting to mate with their mothers.[115] Male rats have been recorded engaging in mating with their sisters, but they tend to prefer non-related females over their sisters.[116]

Livestock breeders often practice controlled breeding to eliminate undesirable characteristics within a population, which is also coupled with culling of what is considered unfit offspring, especially when trying to establish a new and desirable trait in the stock.

"Livestock breeders often practice controlled breeding to eliminate undesirable characteristics within a population, which is also coupled with culling of what is considered unfit offspring, especially when trying to establish a new and desirable trait in the stock."

This means both breeding close relatives together to produce and enhance characteristics, whilst killing those who are too inbred (causing inbreeding depression and poor functioning of organisms (paralysis etc.)). Dogs and cats breed with their mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, I don't remember cats being seen as impure in Islamic doctrine. Neither are rabbits as far as I know, these definitely breed within families and are eaten as a source of food as well. Your mothers point is moot!

Goats eat everything and I remember them being a primary source of food in Arabia and Arabic speaking nations; if I remember correctly. Heck, chickens will eat dead chicken flesh if given it, they are allowed!

Pork is healthier than beef and lamb - it is lot less fatty. I eat pork but I don't really like the taste.

You mother never had cats, did she? A pity, because cats are not at all frowned upon in Islam since supposedly one gave birth in the house of the Prophet. And yet they screw their mothers and sisters and daughter!

If Muhammad was so wise then why didn't he state one should wash ones hand after stroking a cat and most certainly should not rub ones eyes?
