A few years back I was at the mother-in-laws funeral and as it was civil ceremony I got speaking to the officiate. We spoke about her atheism and our mutual admiration for Richard Hawings etc. I went on to ask her how strong her lack of faith was and would she (hypothetical question) be prepared to undertake Aleister Crowley's ritual that was meant to incarnate the devil himself. Not sure what it is but I'm sure it would involve a chicken, these things always do, also I think it takes 6 months.

Anyway, the question was way to weird for her and it went over her head. So I ask the forum how strong is your lack of faith, would you hypothetically undertake this

Sounds like a lot of work. Do you have anything easier?

Also who is Richard Hawings? Sounds like a mix of Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking

Erm... I'm not surprised she didn't answer - because it's an odd question to ask an atheist or agnostic.

If one doesn't believe in God - then they probably don't believe in the devil too - so why try reincarnating him?

If I was her I would have given you a shove as the coffin was being lowered

Atheism is a lack of belief in god , it does not imply belief in 'devils' etc . , in fact belief in satan , demons or the like is just another branch of religion - Lucifer was a biblical character.
Crowley was an interesting character but I'm not convinced he even believed half the stuff he came out with himself.
But if you do manage it I guess "Richard Hawings" could work as an alias.

You asked an officiate at your dead mother-in-law's funeral if she would invoke the Devil in an Aleister Crowley style summoning ritual?

I think I understand what the OP intended. Is your lack of faith strong enough that you would risk re-incarnating the devil, or is there a nagging feeling that would prevent you attempting it "just in case".

Personally, I wouldn't believe in the efficacy of the ceremony, even if I believed in the devil so I'd probably do it either way.

If it didn't work it would prove nothing. Would be kind of interesting if it did though. Do you think he'd let us ask some questions before devouring our souls (or whatever he does)?
