Astrotheology tends to get a bad press because it gets confused with astrology, but I understand it to be about asking questions about the relationships between the stars, sun, moon, planets meteors and religions.

Islam seems to be of note because of its interest in the moon and because it worships a meteorite.

This link has some interesting discussions, has anyone studied the relationships between Islam and the skies?

For example, this paper describes doing fieldwork in a Hindu village and the complexities caused by various calendars.
