    During a press conference at a local hotel in Islamabad, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the Pakistani armed forces to launch a military operation against women wearing jeans all over Pakistan.

    According to him, the immodesty of women is the cause behind earthquakes, inflation and other kinds of disasters.

    Fazlur Rehman went on to say that a woman who is not covered like a 'sack of flour' is a mobile weapon of mass destruction for her state and that Pakistan has multitude of such nuclear missiles in all its major cities.

    Rehman then blamed 'immodest women' for the Baluchistan crisis, lack of energy supply and the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan.

    Fazlur Rehman was suggesting that, if these women are wrapped in sacks and kept inside homes and if the Shariah law was in place, then the Taliban brothers would not be attacking Pakistan.

    Fazlur Rehman also talked about the demerits of the operation against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Justifying his angst, Fazlur Rehman said that Taliban were not Pakistan’s enemy and the forces needed to target the real enemies of Pakistan.

    Providing a solution he continued saying that once Allah stops delivering his wrath via the Taliban, the economy would automatically improve through foreign investment leading to improvement in the energy situation.

    Rehman then openly requested the army chief and the prime minister to openly declare war against Pakistani women and launch a military operation.

    Not sure I'd trust that source to give an accurate presentation of Mr. Rehman's policy or platform. Not that he isn't batshit crazy, he probably is.

    Its funny how some people think God always shares their private pet hates.  Over in this part of the world gay marriage causes floods and meteorites, in Pakistan women wearing jeans cause earthquakes and war.  Apparently God doesn't care if western women wear jeans or what Pakistani gays get up to.

    this idea is popular in Algeria too, we had an earthquake in Boumerdess ( a city in north Algeria),  and people blame it on the depravation in our beaches, i think somehow people like to find reasons for any natural phenomena.

    I blame the only earthquake I've ever experienced on Sweden's decadence (I'm in Copenhagen but the earthquake was in Sweden across the sound).



    We were the first country to liberalise porn so the punishment was a bit late. And in the wrong country.

    I think there is something deeper here Than mere religion, although I am pretty liberal as far as religion is concerned, i am still social conservative, maybe it is the Arab tribal influence, my wife wears hijab , and she is happy with it, and somehow deep inside me, I like that.

    bottom line atheist or not, we are still Algerians with cultural irrational attitude.

    Well, Berber tribes were quite patriarchal without needing Islamic/Arab influence.

    That being said, I am still Algerian but I am not by any means socially conservative.

    opps sorry, I meant, Algerian men even atheist, may still be social conservative because of their cultural heritage. 

    let me tell you an anecdote, here where I live there is a  small Algerian  community some of them are openly atheist (ie; they drink at home), one of the guy don't fast, and he was horrified when his wife told him she don't fast too, go figure. yes

    I always suspect that Islam has shaped our attitude toward woman, but I am afraid there are some other deeper factors in play.
