Greek riot cops at Eidomeni did nothing to help either refugees or aid workers today, as expected. If there, don't count on them for safety.
Veteran protest photojournos know that riot police only exacerbate the danger posed to crowds. Apparently same holds true at the border.
Also, refugees at Eidomeni ransacked the NGOs' supply tents b/c they've been hungry/cold for days, not b/c they were enraged at them.
NGO heads/officials on ERT were pleading for refugee registration before they reach the border. Centers may take until next year to function
What part of 'crisis management' don't you understand, EU? Why did it take you months to implement mechanisms? What's w the victim blaming?
2 migrants got electrocuted atop boxcars in a week, not knowing that tension arcs from overhead cables. How hard to put up a sign in Arabic?
The EU's plan to deal with the refugee crisis is fraught with criminal negligence, at best. At worst, a cold calculus for a moat of death.
How long before European govt start overtly killing refugees, instead of just trusting their measures to do it for them? Q needs to be asked
Lastly, why are EU/UN/big NGOs treating indep volunteers at Eidomeni & Lesvos like impediments? They were the ones doing most of the work
EU leaders briefly visit 'hot spots' & they never get the full story. Volunteers are kept away from them, aid workers too mortified to speak
