    Quote
Gunmen have launched an attack on the Radisson Blu Hotel in the centre of Mali's capital, Bamako. Two people have locked in 140 guests and 30 employees in "a hostage-taking situation", the hotel's owners said in a statement.

Police have surrounded the hotel, which the gunmen entered shooting, and shouting "God is great!" in Arabic, a security source told Reuters. A BBC reporter says the US-owned hotel is popular with expats working in Mali.
A Chinese guest told China's state news agency Xinhua via a mobile app that he was among a number of Chinese guests trapped there.

In August, suspected Islamist gunmen killed 13 people, including five UN workers, during a hostage siege at a hotel in the central Malian town of Sevare. France, the former colonial power in Mali, intervened in the country in January 2013 when al-Qaeda-linked militants threatened to march on Bamako after taking control of the north of the country

    Mali attack: Live updates

The US embassy in Bamako has tweeted that it "is aware of an ongoing active shooter operation at the Radisson Hotel". All US citizens were asked "to shelter in place" and "encouraged to contact their families".

"It's all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor," a security source told AFP.

Some reports say about 10 gunmen in total are involved in the attack. The Rezidor Hotel Group, which owns the Radisson Blu, said it was in constant contact "with the local authorities in order offer any support possible to re-instate safety and security at the hotel".

The UN force in Mali took over responsibility for security in the country from French and African troops in July 2013, after the main towns in the north had been recaptured from the Islamist militants.

Hostage freed from Mali hotel says attackers spoke English

CONAKRY, Nov 20 (Reuters) - A famous Guinean singer who was among 170 people taken hostage on Friday by Islamist gunmen in the Radisson Blu hotel in Mali's capital, Bamako, said he heard attackers in the next room speaking English.

"I heard them say in English 'Did you load it?', 'Let's go'," singer Sékouba 'Bambino' Diabate, who was freed by Malian security forces, told Reuters in Conakry. "I wasn't able to see them because in these kinds of situations it's hard."

Special forces storm Mali hotel, 27 dead as siege ends  says news

    Quote
BAMAKO: At least 27 people were reported dead on Friday after Malian commandos, assisted by foreign special forces, stormed a luxury hotel in the capital Bamako with at least 170 people inside, many of them foreigners, that had been seized by militants.

Ministerial adviser Amadou Sangho told the French television station BFMTV that no more hostages were being held. Dozens of hostages managed to escape the early morning raid, but 138 people were trapped in the besieged Radisson Blu hotel in the Malian capital Bamako and the security ministry said at least three people had been killed.

    Special forces raid hotel
Earlier, Malian special forces and police backed by members of the UN's MINUSMA peacekeeping force in Mali and French troops were seeking to end the siege where 170 people were initially seized.

US special operations troops had also helped rescue at least six Americans from the luxury hotel, the US military said.

“A small group of US forces have helped move civilians to a secure location,” US Africa Command's Colonel Mark Cheadle told reporters in Washington, adding that “at least six US citizens” had been rescued.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said about 25 US military personnel were in Bamako at the time of the incident.

well that is the news.,   27  is better than some 100.... lucky there was no booby traps  and  it is life.  it has to go away one day...

The religion of peace everyone. Sigh.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I can't believe that I have a sense of relief that are only 27. I guess my expectations are charging much quickly than I have previously thought.
