  • How to Drink
     OP - March 16, 2016, 02:32 AM

I had my first beer today and it was SHIT, it was sour as f*ck and it felt like it was was burning my throat as I drank. I got one of those big beer mugs and I could not drink more than 1/8th of it before I could not handle the taste of shit.

I do not feel tipsy or anything. What should I drink to get drunk as a beginner and is alcohol or beer an acquired taste or does it always taste like shit. If it never gets better why do people drink; and why drink beer if it tastes awful and its hard to get drunk?

I had high hopes today but man I was so disappointed.

Any advice from experienced drinkers? thnkyu

    hey,

Well first of all congrats on the big step !!

I still remember my first beer, It was a corona, I thought i was tasting piss, I couldn't finish the beer.

You build up to it slowly. Thing is most common alcoholic beverages will take time to get used to, its the fancy liquors that go down very smooth but they are costly.

I say keep at it, practice makes perfect. !!  sloshed cheers

Beer is an acquired taste. But also a lot of the more widely available beers are horrible. You need to find your niche.

    What beer did you try?

    ^^ Madness.  Grin

Why bother working to like the taste of piss.   Tongue

Isn't that a bit like trying to learn to love self abuse?   cool2

There are plenty of alcoholic drinks that taste nice immediately.  Spirits and mixers all the way.  Sometimes, even some spirits alone.  Like rum.  Firey manna.   parrot

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I think it's less like learning to love what you hate and more like understanding how you can enjoy it. It's kind of like music you don't like until you experience it in a certain way and it makes more sense and you really enjoy it in a specific way.

I believe it was a Corona.

I am invited to a wine party soon, Does wine taste better? Is there any you guys think would be easier on me (white vs red)?

Even though Beer tasted like shit, I want to like it as well because it's the biggest middle finger to my old Islamic Indoctrination, and all my friends do it and I feel left out.

Most alcoholic drinks taste like shit to someone who's just starting to drink. I think that's because people are not used to their taste and don't know how to drink them. They're used to sweet drinks like soda that they can gulp. That's not how alcoholic drinks are meant to be enjoyed. They're sipped and enjoyed slowly. I think you come to appreciate their bitterness and other distinct tastes that way.

I don't know why I kept going back to beer till I started liking it. I wasn't forcing myself to drink it, but at the same time it wasn't my favourite.

You might not like wine. But you might. You might also like some wines more than others. It's all personal preference. You'll figure stuff out with time and experience. It's the same with beer. Some beers tastes like shit, others taste like chocolate.

Fuck all that culture. Real street kids know the best beer is malt. You really want to put up your middle finger? Throw back a forty you bought at a gas station, and leave the bag half on. Don´t let culture get in your way and don´t worry about taste. Malt liquor is sweet, best drunk on the run when the streets are steaming and the tension is high. If you can get a cop to chase you immediately after then you have the real deal. Just don´t fly any flags and wear good shoes. Skip the Irish and go for King Cobra. Don´t sleep.

Don't let Hitler have the street.

I remember the first time I got drunk and ended up imposing myself on a female friend of mine. Too many Jägerbombs were indeed the freedom of sudden insanity. I groan with shame and embarrassment even today for what marinading my brain thereafter in disgusting and evil whisky, which made me believe I was irretrievably immortal, really meant. I did not know that you had taken me to a nightclub for the sole purpose of cock-blocking other boys on the dance floor, but wherever you are now, dear Talulah, please forgive me for the fourth time everything that was novice.

Oh... Lol Huh? I thought you drink beer like you drink juice and u see spring break in movies where people chug so I thought to get drunk faster you are supposed to drink faster. I guess if I sipped it then It would not be as bad. But if you are supposed to sip, how on earth are you supposed to finish those 20oz mugs of beer, I mean if you are sipping it will take an hour to finish it? Does it take time to build a tolerance to drink faster to finish one of those?

Hassan. Sounds like you're in America (I'm not). Here are some American beers, bottled, completely different and high quality that you can try at home.

Please don't drink to get drunk. Drink when you enjoy it, if you're enjoying yourself and get drunk in company that's not so bad but drinking alone and getting drunk isn't really a good experience. Be aware alcohol is about the worse thing to be addicted to, don't go down that road.

Yes. But you'll never get to a point where you'll drink it like soda or juice. This is true for all alcoholic drinks. People chug to show off that they can. That's why it's a thing. But it's not enjoyable.

Beer may not be to your taste. Try going to a brewery, or event serving craft beers, and try a third of anything the barkeeper recommends!

Absolutely. I wrote the Craft Beer Beginning Drinker's Guide just for people like you!

why drink beer if it tastes awful and its hard to get drunk?

Awful beer tastes fucking awful. Good beer tastes fucking amazing.

Also, it's not difficult to get drunk on beer. While beer (usually -- you can get some strong ones!) has a lower ABV than wine or liquor, there are several factors that determine how much alcohol you absorb and therefore how drunk you get, including body weight, whether you've eaten, etc. Interestingly, carbonation can increase alcohol absorption, which means you get a little more bang per ABV with beer. And while a single beer may not get you as drunk as a single shot, why would you want to be drunk after only one? Beer is meant to be enjoyed over time, slowly building a pleasant buzz!

All that said, please do read the above link on alcohol absorption, as well as this page on safe alcohol use (I've updated my craft beer guide to include these as well).

    Drink safely and enjoy! cheers

Wine tastes different, though not necessarily "better." Like beer, wine can vary from sweet and mild to bitter and acidic. But also like beer, all the complex flavors go along with the stronger tastes. I'd recommend starting with a white, which tend to be on the sweet and mild side. Personally, I find reds to have much more interesting and substantial flavors.

Wine is definitely meant for sipping slowly, so feel free to try a small amount of something and take tiny sips to decide if you like it. There is really even no need to drink an entire glass of anything if you want to sample several. Remember wine has a higher ABV, so go slowly if you aren't used to drinking!

I've drank beer several times by now and have never gotten drunk or even that buzzed.

I just had one and a half pints at most so maybe its just that you have to have at least three or four drinks of beer to get drunk or buzzed.

If you're only drinking a pint along with food, it's doubtful you'll feel any alcohol effect, especially if you're an experienced drinker. I DO NOT recommend drinking on an empty stomach if you are new to drinking... but if you're old hat, a good beer on an empty stomach should give you a nice mild buzz, especially if it's in the 6+% range. Below 5% would probably take more than one.

What kind of beer do you drink?
