it's doubtful you'll feel any alcohol effect, especially if you're an experienced drinker.

Definitely not experienced. I've probably had less than one hundred alcoholic drinks in my entire life.

The only time I drink is if I'm out with people at some social gathering and everyone else is drinking.

When I do drink I usually order some sort of lager.

My first beer was from a Canadian craft brewery called steam whistle.

If it's a social gathering, you're probably eating too? Food will slow the effect of alcohol, which is a good thing. yes No worries, as you get more experienced you'll start to get a feel for what it takes to feel a buzz.

Er... I feel I should mention alcohol is not healthy. Alcohol is a poison, and the buzz or drunk feeling you get is the result of your body trying to rid itself of the poison. You really should never drink with the goal of getting drunk, but especially if you are younger than ~25. Your brain is still developing until your mid 20s, and you don't want alcohol fucking that up. There's no rush to become an experienced drinker. Just drink moderately on occasion and enjoy yourself with your friends. Afro

Oh don't worry I don't plan on getting drunk. I'm not a party boy.  Tongue

Went into a nightclub once and cannot for the life of me understand why people my age love them.

Crappy music playing too loud for you to talk and a bunch of way overpriced drinks and people dancing in stupid ways.

I'd much prefer a pub or bar where I can actually have a conversation with my friends.

Heck even browsing through a niche bookstore is alot more fun for me than a nightclub.

Oh... Lol Huh? I thought you drink beer like you drink juice and u see spring break in movies where people chug so I thought to get drunk faster you are supposed to drink faster. I guess if I sipped it then It would not be as bad. But if you are supposed to sip, how on earth are you supposed to finish those 20oz mugs of beer, I mean if you are sipping it will take an hour to finish it? Does it take time to build a tolerance to drink faster to finish one of those?

When I go for a beer among my friends someone can sit with a beer for more than an hour while some will finish theirs in a couple of minutes. Just sipping is a good plan until you know what you like. It takes some practice to get used to. That's all. The most basic error among beginners is they mix drinks that are too strong. Like 50/50 vodka/coke. It tastes like shit so you need to just go 4cl of the vodka and fill up with something else. Some soda or Juice. I don't know, there are recipes out there.
Just start slow and remember to not send text messages or do anything online what-so-ever while drinking. If you incidentally know what 'git push -f' means, then that's now on top of the list of things you're not going to do on alcohol.

I am invited to a wine party soon, Does wine taste better?

No. It's all pretty horrible actually. One warning though. Wine is stronger than beer so just sip slowly.

I'm drunk on vodka shots and cranberry juice. All it did was make me throw crying fits and now I'm miserable  Cry

Last time I had vodka with cranberry juice  was on a ferry between Finland and Sweden. We were on a cruise listening to Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood and someone in the company offered me one too many and I just couldn't say no. Back in Stockholm I was the next last off the ship and I almost had to crawl off. Lee Hazlewood was the last one off. I know that because they called for him over the PA system. Then I vomited my way all the way home, one subway station at a time. Interestingly, since that day I just can't drink cranberry juice. But vodka in itself? No problemo. So much for instinct...

I still live with my parents so there are few occasions where I can drink alcoholic beverages so I don't have a lot of experience. But I do like beer, I just drink it slowly and I pick the good ones, I'm not gonna say the names since that would reveal my approximate position, but all I know about the kind of beer I like is that it has around 10% alcohol and it's blonde. I don't like the dark ones.
Wines taste better to me, especially white wine.
The only time I really felt the effect of alcohol is when I drank gin tonic and a beer after that. Gin tonic tastes fuckin awesome, I didn't really feel something, but the day after that I couldn't concentrate on studying, which isn't a good thing so now I know that I have to avoid strong alcoholic beverages in the week.

I had my first beer today and it was SHIT, it was sour as f*ck and it felt like it was was burning my throat as I drank. I got one of those big beer mugs and I could not drink more than 1/8th of it before I could not handle the taste of shit.

I do not feel tipsy or anything. What should I drink to get drunk as a beginner and is alcohol or beer an acquired taste or does it always taste like shit. If it never gets better why do people drink; and why drink beer if it tastes awful and its hard to get drunk?

I had high hopes today but man I was so disappointed.

Any advice from experienced drinkers? thnkyu

Forget beer,Beer sucks. You want to get tipsy or drunk, get yourself a bottle of Skye Vodka or Absolut Vodka or Hennessy or Jameson Whiskey. Mix either of them with Coke or flavoured water to reduce the bitter taste along with Ice(Very important stuff to add because the colder the drink the better).

Also make sure you drink a lot of water while you are drinking to avoid a nagging hangover that will make you puke your intestines out next morning.

Usually people start drinking with very sweet drinks, such as cocktails, and so on. But you have to be careful with them. Since they are usually very sweet you don't feel the alcohol and get drunk very easily.

When we come to beer. I love beer. It took me also some time to get used to it, but I don't know after I while I got used to it. The good thing about beer is that you don't get drunk so easily.

So [putting on my German glasses  cool2 ]

Corona? That's not a beer. Made out of corn. Bäh!! A real beer is brewed according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot: the only ingredients should be water, barely and hops.

So try to find German (but not Beck's) or Czech beer (e.g. Pilsener Urquell). Or Danish beer (Tuborg, Carlsberg).

    Barley, not barely  Wink

My favorite is a good Hefeweizen (made with wheat, not barley as the name implies).
Closely behind that comes Belgian monastery beers. Those should be approached with care, as they are often quite a bit stronger than regular beer. The first time I encountered them, was when a Belgian friend brought  his homeland's sweet drink in magnum Champagne bottle. We had a fantastic time, and I didn't feel anything out of the ordinary before I tried to stand up.
     sloshed

Standard Carlsberg and Tuborg pilsner-types doesn't do much for me (they are for drinking when you are thirsty or just want to get slowly drunk without too much taste). But Carlsberg makes some very good beers under the "Semper Ardens" and "Jacobsen" brands.

The outlook to the hangover ruins my joy of being drunk, so I drink for the taste and a light buzz, but not more.
(I have no problems with acting weird in a sober state)
