    Came across something interesting

    Quote
Why does music pervade our lives and those of all known human beings living today and in the recent past? Why do we feel compelled to engage in musical activity, or at least simply enjoy listening to music even if we choose not to actively participate? I argue that this is because musicality—communication using variations in pitch, rhythm, dynamics and timbre, by a combination of the voice, body (as in dance), and material culture—was essential to the lives of our pre-linguistic hominin ancestors. As a consequence we have inherited a desire to engage with music, even if this has no adaptive benefit for us today as a species whose communication system is dominated by spoken language. In this article I provide a summary of the arguments to support this view.

Xianity, arguably can be understood as a musical religion, eventually leading to choirs, orchestras, the voice and eurovision.

But what happened with some forms of Islam, why?

When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.

The development of Western music probably isn't down to music in churches. Sacred and secular music developed independently, by the fourteenth century secular music was much more developed.

Oh Bani Ummayah, save yourselves from music, as it would decrease your modesty, increases your lust and demolish your morality. It would create within you the fondness of wine and it will lead you to do what a drunken person does. If (as a last resort) you really have to listen to music then, at least save your womenfolk from it for verily music leads to fornication.”

I started this thread, so not really a derail!

What is this "real evil" about and how and why does it change over time?

During the 1950's psychotic fantasies included references to x rays, atom bombs, TV's and UFO's.

!960's were miniskirts and the pill and rock and roll and drugs and sex.

I get the impression cyclists are now.

Some groups seem stuck with fixed lists - alcohol, pork.

How and why do these things get picked on and institutionalised?

Do they have anything to do with evil?  Why is there this over riding slippery slope myth?

well let me rephrase moi's  question  by adding a word "When"

How , when and why do stuff like music, pork and  alcohol become evil?

... So with that question Let us start with why eating pork meat is banned?

Why is Pork Forbidden? .. Answer from that Indian guy Zakir Naik?? or Zakir Joker

WHY IS THE EATING OF PORK (PIG MEAT) FORBIDDEN IN ISLAM?

those videos along with these verse from Quran..

    Quote
Surah Al Baqara  verse-173:  "He has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) Allah has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.". ()

Surah Al-Mā'idah verse -3:  "Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being smitten with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter, and what is sacrificed on stones set up (for idols) and that you divide by the arrows; that is a transgression. This day have those who disbelieve despaired of your religion, so fear them not, and fear Me. This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.".

Surah Al-'An`ām  verse-145 : Say: I do not find in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden for an eater to eat of except that it be what has died of itself, or blood poured forth, or flesh of swine-- for that surely is unclean-- or that which is a transgression, other than (the name of) Allah having been invoked on it; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring nor exceeding the limit, then surely your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

Surah An-Na16:se-115: He has only forbidden you what dies of itself and blood and flesh of swine and that over which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring nor exceeding the limit, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

That is straight from  horse mouth.. the mouth of allah  ..god... dog..  whatever So if you are Muslims and following Quan word by word., then yes.. pork meat is haram..

that is it no more discussion pork meat., but we can talk about why Islam/certain Muslims do no allow Music or alcohol ...

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
