During the fourth and fifth centuries the tendency to exclude the Apocalypse from the list of sacred books continued to increase in the Syro-Palestinian churches.

What effect might this actually critical theological debate have had on the evolution of the koran?

Gog and Magog is name-checked in sura 18, which is tied in very close with the Syriac Chanson d'Alexander (as Guillaume Dye calls it). The Beast - dabba - gets called out in sura 21; this sura was used as a prooftext by Umayyads making a play for the historic Syrian churches. For instance Divan de Férazdak ed. R. Boucher (Paris: 1870), 1.102.

(I have not found a record of anyone else quoting sura 21 before al-Farazdaq under al-Walid I. Sura 18 - I think - is quoted by sura 28 which itself was recited by Ibn al-Harith ~ 80 / 700: on this last, Wilferd Madelung, "Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr and the Mahdi".)

It seems to me that the qurrâ' of Syria did not agree with mainstream Syrian-Christian rejection of the Apocalypse. They mined the Apocalypse extensively. Which fits in well with what we have of Syrian Islamic apocalyptic in Nu'aym bin Hammad's Fitan.

Do we have a clear predecessor of the koran?  Pro Revelation Syrian Church groups?

Is that predecessor of the koran ., that is   Pro Revelation Syrian Church groups?Huh? or Pre-revelation ?

Well if it is Pre-revelation., then it is stories of bible (OT & NT)  floating around those towns ., More important question is .,

    Who wrote the Quran?
    Who put  that book  together?
is it one author or many??  and How many authors were there to put that book out as we see to day?
Are the initial autors/ideas of the first Quran came from Jewish guy? Christan guy? or Roman guy ?or is it Arabian pagan guy who converted to Islam??

hmm.. not one question.. so many question ar out there.... lol.. I thought it is only one question..

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything

Stephen Shoemaker thinks he's found one - The Tiburtine Sibyl.

Shoemaker refers to this article by Averil Cameron - Late Antique Apocalyptic: a Context for the Qur’an?
