"We have immediately withdrawn teaching on this part of the course and we are reviewing how we go forward with the support of all the communities represented in our school. It is important for children to learn about faith and beliefs, but this must be done in a sensitive way.

"The member of staff has been suspended pending an independent formal investigation."

Police said Taqi Shah, a religious scholar from the Shia community, and his friend Hasnain Shah, were roaming a local mela (festival) in Basti Murad of Shorkot tehsil on March 24 when they were attacked by a man on foot.

Taqi, who was on a motorcycle, lost his balance and fell on the road upon which the attacker axed him (Taqi) to death, according to police. His friend Hasnain remained safe in the incident and is a witness in the case.

The suspect later fled the scene.

Police then reached the spot and shifted the body to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.

Jhang District Police Officer (DPO) Sarfraz Virk told Dawn the victim was also facing charges of committing blasphemy against the companions of the Prophet in a court. The blasphemy case against him was registered in 2019....

Oh common crumble Kenan Malik is a great guy .. he is fighting Islamist idiots for the past 20 years ., I am not worried about the columns of That Indian Kenan Malik ., But I am worried about other Malik from Sudan .. their main themes appears to be patriotism, anti semitism and anti activism - which probably explains their association with the tories. I'd guess it's motivated by cynical careerism rather than an honest disillusionment with socialist politics.

There's a Brexit Party link as well. Claire Fox who is listed on the Don't Divide Us 'who we are' page was a Brexit Party MEP and is now in the House of Lords.

on a positive note, any pushback against the victim narrative of systemic racism (and by extension, islamophobia) is welcome. I suppose gross simplification can only be countered by something similar to itself.

it also moves the conversation away from cultural sensitivity. sure we might be heading back to a time where overt racism is ignored/encouraged but that has to be better than bowing to a mob of bearded fanatics?
