That's true...And the worst kind! The tricky one. I've got my eye on you, Descent.

Yeah, I only want women to be educated for my own selfish reasons, not for the benefit of mankind. You see, smart women prefer smart men, so it'll improve my chances considerably.

^I've heard it argued by Western sex-positive feminist types that one of the reasons why such bizarre pornography/sexual practices (panty vending machines) come out of Japan is because it's otherwise a very restrictive culture. Since we've got an expert in the house, is that true?

As a boarding-school-educated Brit, it all strikes me as totally normal.

Makes sense. Thanks for answering my, slightly loaded, question.

No problem. I live in Japan. I'm surrounded by disappointingly normal people.

^ Where abouts, David? My sister is going to school in Tokyo at Temple. She lives off campus. If you see a green-haired white woman in the Itabashi ward, say hi.

Yeah, the more I learn about the world and people in general, the more apparent it becomes that people everywhere tend to be disappointingly normal.

    but they live longer..

    Quote
    http://www.nytimes.com/1992/04/26/world/japanese-live-longer-the-un-finds.html

The Japanese live longer than anyone else on earth, with an average life expectancy of 82.5 years for women and 76.2 years for men, according to a new United Nations report.

The World Health Organization's latest statistical year book -- a 350-page compendium of information about why and when people die -- says French women have the second longest life expectancy at 81.5 years, while American women trail in 16th place, living 78.6 years on average.

Male Americans, with an average life span of 71.6 years, tend to die sooner than men in 22 other countries, including Cuba, Costa Rica, Greece and most other European countries.

Medical bills account for 14 percent of the average American family's spending, a figure exceeded only in Switzerland, where 15 percent of the family budget goes to medical treatment. In Canada and Britain, which both have government-subsidized health care systems, the equivalent figures are 5 and 8 percent, according to the book, the 1991 World Health Statistical Annual, which is compiled from data supplied by the nations represented.

I think I give that credit to WOMEN OF JAPAN.. all women should learn something from them..

Not from what I've heard about the amount of white people, especially of the otaku variety, residing in Japan. They also have a tendency for exotic hair color so...

I'm in suburban Osaka, and the only white person in the area. It being a former slum, there are some poor Peruvians living across the street, but they don't really count as people, do they?

What is your green-haired sister studying in Tokyo, Lua?

^ She's studying political science. She's about done. Later this year she's off to London to go to law school, but she's spent a good four years in Tokyo.

Grin Well, I couldn't judge. She had a Japanese tutor for a couple years before she went, though. It's always been her dream to go to Japan for school for some reason, so she started early and studied eagerly.

    You'll be out soon.

I don't want to presume, but maybe you're feeling the same sort of frustration I did back when I lived in suburban Connecticut. It was such a dull place to be a teenager, it wasn't until recently that I really understood why anyone would want to live there for too long. I can see myself going back when I'm old as dirt, though.  wacko

Northern New York got nothin but corn fields and pumpkin patches.
And snow goddamn it. Snow from as early as October till as late as May. I am perfectly satisfied with rain...
The stupid thing I've lived in places where there was so much more life and I hate this town. I probably only like 10 people here.

I know how you feel, then. I have no idea what I would have done with myself if I hadn't been crazy into video games. I grew up in Sandy Hook, a tiny borough inside Newtown, which is a geographically large "small town," which made it impossible to like walk or ride a bike to a more interesting one. And there was nothing at all for miles and miles but trees and old houses. The most modern thing we had was a Big Y.  Cheesy

And don't get me started on the snow...It's even worse when you're the one in charge of its removal!

It's okay. I have gotten used to it. Being closer to Canada than to the southern border has it's perks.
If we stopped using the title, ourselves, it might die out. But I think we are still even putting out publications with Yankee in it...
It's an East Coast thing, too, you know. Not Midwest or West Coast.
Just y'all over and up there on the right be Yankees.
Damn. A gun just went off outside. People should hunt in the morning, not the middle of the night.

I miss snow.  Cry. It's been four years since I last saw snow when I was in Canada. I don't know how you can possible hate snow, it's so much fun! You can build with it, through it at other people, go skiing. Though I suppose long-term exposure could make one dislike it.

American - Yank as far as the rest of the world is concerned. Bloody yanks...

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I think in the U.S. it specifically refers to Northerners, which is why it peeves them. A little bit like calling everyone from England...whatever it is you call people from up north.

What I find interesting is Yanks complaining about the name when they call their Native population Indians. INDIANS!
