Dubai cancels New Year's bash

Dubai - Dubai's ruler on Tuesday ordered the cancellation of all New Year celebrations in the Gulf's tourism hub in solidarity with Palestinians facing Israeli military attacks in the Gaza Strip.

Done in Egypt as well. It definitely is not for the sake of the Palestinians, as egyptians opened fire on Palestinians trying to cross into egypt. But the rulers are doing it to stave off accusations and criticism that the government is not islamic enough.

I don't see what good this is supposed to do the Palestinians. Dubai probly can't do much anyway, so I don't blame them. Egypt could though, which makes their token gesture look pathetic.
