from the independent. (stop reading that times rubbish Tongue)

Q: Could she have done the same in Britain?

A: No. Women here are "not legally allowed to return to work until at least two weeks after birth," according to Mary Newburn, head of policy at the National Childbirth Trust. This is to protect their health.

It doesn't seem fair to the baby.

She has plenty money to pay for nannies, but it can't be the same!

Some women complain that they would like to spend more time with their children and can't because they can't take time off work and others can't seem to get away from their children fast enough. The article also says that she is a Muslim.  Muslimah HHmmmmm??

I must confess ignorance about her religion, but a couple of Muslim friends insist that she studied in private Catholic schools and that she is not a Muslim.

AND her daughter?s. Bringing kids into this world means they ought to come first, at least as long as they are that small and dependent, doesn?t it?

She hasn't abandoned the baby.  I'm sure its in good hands while she's at work 9 to 5.

Maybe, but I believe that she should have waited awhile longer.  She is definately missing the main bonding phase.

Meh.  She can bond away with it outside working hours.

She obviously woudn't take a 3 day sickie using a stat dec. then.

Anyway the article hints at other reasons besides the superwoman / bad mother dichotomy.

    Quote from: the article
Everyone understood that Ms Dati, who is deemed to be a disastrous minister, was desperate to keep her job and be there when Mr Sarkozy announced his radical plan to abolish the institution of investigating judges.

Sure. Put the toy away, while she?s doing the SERIOUS stuff from 9 to 5. Or a bit longer.

The baby is being perfectly well cared for by a nanny while she's at work.  Somehow I'd be more concerned about the four starving children found clinging to their mother's corpse in Gaza City, or the Israeli children huddled into bomb shelters in Sderot.

The "plight" of this poor, well fed, well cared for child of a rich French woman doesn't cause me much concern.  Maybe I'm just heartless.   parrot

I don't care what religion she is - this is about selfishness . If your career is really so important to you that you can't spare more than a week awy from it , fair enough . But don't have children ,the baby deserves more .

no, just clueless about children?s needs and brainwashed by idiot feminists.

Rubbish.  I'm not given to worrying about other peoples' children unless I see a real reason to worry.  There isn't one here, its just people sticking their noses in.

Leaving your babies with strangers becomes even more risky when you see what happens:

Also, Dio it's hardly feminisms fault if this woman has no maternal instinct, some women are just made up that way.

Berbs, I somehow doubt that the baby of a French cabinet minister is being left with a teenage chav who will sit on her ass all day watching the Jeremy Kyle Show.

Anyway, if this Rachida woman is really as selfish as some people on the thread seem to think she is, then maybe the child's better off being in the care of a nanny, who presumably loves children enough to make it her career to take care of them.  The way some people on this thread have reacted anyone would think she'd dumped her baby in a skip.

not a skip, but she DID dump it. That?s the point.
  • Re: Rachida Dati..Your opinion?

She didn't dump it at all.  Its at home all day being cared for by somebody else, then she goes home every night and takes care of it.  That doesn't qualify as being dumped.

And btw, of all the full-time, stay at home mums I know, not a single one of them spends 24/7 tied to their babies.  They all employ child minders for when they go out to do their shopping, go to the gym, go out with friends, etc.  Its not selfish, its just a fact that they don't stop having needs of their own the minute they have a baby.

    Friggen good point actually lol.

Look I'm honestly not trying to demonise her, It's her decision after all, and the effects will be on her and her daughter, not on me, I just stated on my personal opinion, that a woman should at least wait until her baby is 3 months, a mere 12 weeks, before she rushes off to work again, but I would never attempt to impose this view since it is her choice after all.

You're right, its her choice, and every woman's different.  Maybe she knows she'd crack up if she stayed at home any longer.  Other women would crack up if they were parted from their child after five days.

Horses for courses an all that.
