  • Nine is a mind-boggling number. Find out why.

Multiple - A multiple of an integer is the product of that integer with another integer.

    For example:

    49 is a multiple of 7 because 7 x 7 = 49

    32 is a multiple of 4 because 4 x 8 = 32

    Now here's the fun part.

The sum of the individual numbers of any multiple of 9 will ALWAYS add up to 9.

    72 is a multiple of 9. 7 + 2 = 9

    63 is a multiple of 9. 6 + 3 = 9

    54 is a multiple of 9. 5 + 4 = 9

    Let's try a bigger multiple.

    7,137 is a multiple of 9. (793 multiplied by 9)

    7 + 1 + 3 + 7 = 18

I know what you're thinking. ?It doesn't add up to 9!?

Just take a step further and you'll have it.

    7 + 1 + 3 + 7 = 18

    1 + 8 = 9

Now let's try an even bigger multiple of 9.

    4,921,915,617 is a multiple of 9. (546,879,513 multiplied by 9)

    4 + 9 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 5 + 6 + 1 + 7 = 45

    4 + 5 = 9

    What is 9 x 205?

Okay. Pick any number you want and multiply it by 9.

Yes I know. It's a characteristic of decimal systems. If we used an octal system or a hexadecimal system it wouldn't be applicable.

Yes, that's true. I just want to see if I can do it with any number multiplied by nine to see if I understand it correctly.

Math is not my strong point.

You can. As an example take 5,986,987,235,643,674,263,095,905,023,564.

If you multiply that by nine and add up the numbers it will reduce to nine.

I came across this while playing with my calculator some time ago. Its quite fascinating.. and fun Cheesy

I don't even know what a trig is....but I do know what a Tigger is. Does that count?

I think trig is so mysterious. I can do them just fine but I still haven't got the slightest clue how the calculator gets SIN or COSINE or TANGENT. It just works the magic and gives me the numbers. Amazing.

Pi is an irrational number. This means that it cannot be expressed as the quotient of any two whole numbers, and that it goes on forever, in no obvious pattern (3.14159265...)

"i" is called imaginary. It is defined as the square root of negative one (I'll be writing sqrt(-1) for this). Now, why would anyone call sqrt(-1) irrational? Well, think of what a square is: it is a number multiplied by itself. Now, can you think of any number that, when multiplied by itself, gives a negative number? Let's try: a positive times a positive = a positive. A positive times a negative = a negative. But that's not a number multiplied by itself, is it? 2 time -2 is not 2 times 2, right? And finally, any negative times a negative equals a positive.

So, how that's why we call i, which is sqrt(-1), "imaginary" - because according to our "common sense" there's no number that really can be the sqrt(-1).

    I hope this helped.

I was not blessed with the ability to have blind faith. I cant beleive something just because someone says its true.

Tigger's busy eating his dinner, don't bother him with maths at the moment.

    Allow trig functions.
Have to remember all the fucking identities.

And integrating trig is a bitch. There are too many ways to do it and too many chances to make a schoolboy error.

My maths teacher called it "death". Even he hates it.  Cheesy

Might be a more advanced form of trig but Im talking about the sin cos tan sec cosec and cot stuff. Trig identities like double angle forumlas and sin sqaured theta+cos squared theta= 1
