Arabic Using Engl. Numbers.

Some members started to use this method, and although it's not preferred here I think I have to explain more...(This is old topic, available in the archive.)

Arab internetters use some Engl. numbers (orig. Arabic numbers) grin12

, to represent those letters that can't be pronounced by many westerners,

here they are:

1. The letter Ha'a (no 6 in Arabic alphabet) is typed as: 7

so in the word haram, we write: 7aram

2. The letter kha's (no 7), is typed as: 5 (sometimes 7+' = 7')

So, the word khaleefa (Caliph) = 5aleefa, or 7'aleefa

3. The letter ssad (no 14), is typed as: 9

So, the word Sala (prayer) would be: 9ala.

4. The letter Daad (no 15), is typed as 9+' ===> 9'

Can't think of an easy word.

5. The letter Ta'a (no 16) (w\ heavy T), is typed as 6,

So, the word Talaq (divorce), is typed as 6alaq.

6. The letter Tha'a (or dha'a) (no 17), is typed as: 6+' ===> 6'

So, the word Thalam (darkness) would be: 6'alam.

7. The letter Ain (no 18), is typed as: 3.

So the name Omar would be: 3omar.

8. The letter Ghain (no 19), is typed as: 3 + ' ===> 3'

So words like Abu Ghareeb would be: Abu 3'areeb.

9. The letter Qaf (No 21) is typed as: 8 (not all Arabs know that)

So the word Talaq, should be: 6ala8 (refer to item 5)
