     OP - March 08, 2009, 03:19 PM

Muslim "moderate" Sheikh Yusuf al Qaradawi shares his beauty tips!

    Some highlights:
    1) No orthodontics are permitted under Islam! So take off your braces devout Muslims & Muslimahs.
    2) Apparently Muslim women or Sheikh Qaradawi consider gap toothed smiles beautiful- although I always considered them ugly. Women are NOT allowed to increase gaps between their teeth, although Alllah has "blessed" some women with natural gaps as big as ditches-the bigger the prettier
    3) No threading eyebrows- keep your bushy eyebrows ladies! Allah likes them like that!
    4) Wigs & hair extensions are haraam, Allah prefers baldness. Even if one has chemotheraphy treatment for leukemia or similar such illnesses causing hair to fall off, Allah will punish you! Remember & be scared. Be verry scared.

Well, darn!  Guess I'm bound for hell fire since I wore a retainer when I was 10 years old in order to correct an overbite.

Tattooing and cutting the teeth Among such excesses are tattooing and shortening the teeth. The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) cursed the tattooer and the one who is tattooed, the shortener of teeth and the one whose teeth are shortened.

As far as tattooing is concerned, it permanently disfigures the face and other parts of the body with blue pigment and repulsive designs. Some Arabs, especially women, were in the habit of tattooing large portions of their bodies, while people of certain religious sects tattooed pictures of their deities or religious rituals on their hands and chests. To all these abominations is added the pain and agony which the person being tattooed must undergo from the pricking of the needles. Because all of this, both the tattooer and the one who is tattooed have been cursed.

I LOVE my ink!  And seriously!  It's not that painful, more uncomfortable than painful.

If you think about, it's better that the hollywood image we all try so hard to have.

I never had an issue with being told that natural was better, I sort of idealised it into being this better way of seeing the world, in that you would be loved and known for who you really were and not who society and adverts was telling you you needed to be.

But Islam ruins most of its good things, so even this is tainted with the other unfair and ridiculous rules.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I want a tat, Nour if you don't mind me asking, what is your tat of?

I have a fascination with Egyptian symbols and hieroglyphics so I'm thinking of getting a re-designed ankh or eye of Ra....maybe a scarab...something like that. I want them to look different though because heaps of people have those tattoos.

I also have a piercing in my tragus (ear), and will be getting more Cheesy I need to go to the orthodontist too...not really worried about Allah striking me down at the moment.

My dad went through chemo and he got a wig made, it was so weird!

I have several actually but the most symbolic one I have is a juxtaposition of a stylized Star of David over an eight sided 'Islamic' geometric star to symbolize my connections to both Judaism and Islam in my life.  My name is written underneath it in Arabic script.  I plan to have it made into a half-sleeve covering my upper arm in traditional Islamic geometric patterns.  Something you don't see everyday

Go online and do a Google image search... you shoud be able to find several designs on which to base your tattoo design.

Yup!  I'm all for multiple ear piercings.  Have both trachuses pierced plus several in each lobe.  I've had so many piercings close up and re-pierced I've lost count how many time I've had my ears pierced!

On of my mother's neighbours got a toupee a couple of years back.  When I first saw him with it it took me a while to figure out what had changed about his appearance!

True. I guess for once, a Muslim mother could teach something valuable to her daughter from Islamic sources, that's its allright to have less than perfect features, but again it goes into extremes, as you pointed out.
However, Muslims nowadays seem to be into plastic surgeries as well, nose operations are the rage in Iran. When my mom went to Mecca on hajj, she saw shops advertizing tinted contact lenses. Seems even with Iran & Saudi's puritanical norms, vanity is universal.

Why are you going on indulging in forbidden acts Peruvian? Already due to your blasphemy & apostasy- your place in Hell is reserved with your name on it! Repent immediately & give up your evil ways!  Wink

I really have to wonder if Qaradawi really wrote this or if it is erroneously attributed to him by that newspaper (which happens). The reasoning is so strange for some of those things - I  mean, stranger than Islam usually is!

The teeth thing - is not about orthodontics. The women of the Peninsula supposedly used to stick these pic type things between their teeth to widen the gaps and then they would also file the teeth down to look like fangs.  I also read once that they used to stain them dark blue or something. I know, what a BIG difference in beauty standards.  Were they undercover goths of a sort?

Wigs - big ikhtilaf on this issue and I would think Qaradawi would know this. Classically, the use of yarns, or animal hairs in extensions and wigs was allowed, and today, there are many conservative or orthodox scholars who also allow synthetic hairs.

Just reading through that article and looking at the links to others was exhausting. All the nitpicking minutae of being a conscientious Muslim, trying to follow the word of Big Al and his main man Mo.  I used to have quite a laugh when Muslims would say that the Jews 'earned Big Al's wrath' by nitpicking over their Talmud and Taurah and having those legal debates, when they were doing the exact same thing!

I had a gap between my teeth large enough to drive a truck through as a kid...it eventually sorted itself out without too much fuss.

Ive never really gave much thought about enhancing my beauty in all these ways...Im into natural...all though I have thought about getting a tattoo for quite some time. And I have one ear pierced so need to do the other...again. it closed up and Ive just had the one for like 2 years now. People are always asking me did I lose my other earring or am I promoting a certain lifestyle or what? Anyhow...

The list of do's and dont's in Islam is long and involved with even the smallest of potential missteps accounted for. A real turn off considering Islam is supposed to be easy...no undue hardships on Muslims etc...the so called Middle Path.

Its like walking through a mine field sometimes...with other Muslims always standing by ready to shout...dont go there...dont do that...dont dont dont...its haram....sigh! A real turn off.

That's EXACTLY why I decided that Islam was not the path for me!
