I musta seen this movie (Glory) a dozen times, and yet I still get a big ole lump in my throat during this scene, when the guy says "Give 'Em Hell, 54th!":

The final battle scene right after the previous one posted also still gives me chills (you may not want to watch this if you haven't seen the whole movie or don't know the history of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment and their assault on Fort Wagner):

So give it up...whatcha got for lump-in-throat-inducing (or tear-jerker) movie scenes? Post them here.

Can't believe I forgot to add the very end of the movie:

As to the real history behind this scene--

The General in command of the Confederate fort ordered Col. Shaw buried in a mass grave "with his niggers", intended as an insult to him.

Col. Shaw's father certainly didn't take it as an insult and, after the war, when informed of Union attempts to recover his son's body, stated:

"We would not have his body removed from where it lies surrounded by his brave and devoted soldiers....We can imagine no holier place than that in which he lies, among his brave and devoted followers, nor wish for him better company – what a body-guard he has!"

His father steadfastly refused all efforts to exhume and rebury his son.

    fuck you

Thanks for all the recommendations. All the movies you guys mentioned have a high rating on RottenTomatoes. Downloading Glory, Lilya 4-ever, and Kite Runner. Couldn't find Land Gold Women though.

I watched Land Gold Women at a cinema few weeks ago so perhaps it'll become available sometime soon.  Here's a website about the movie:

The film of The Kite Runner isn't all that great, I'd recommend the book instead.

I'm surprised no ones mentioned Grave of the Fireflies. It's meant to be one of the saddest movies ever. Good movie too, would definitely recommend it.

I'd rather nobody mentions Grave of the Fireflies. I don't want to turn suicidal just now.

Just finished watching Lilya 4-ever. Very powerful and poignant. Didn't shed a tear though. Not that the story isn't emotional. It's just that my threshold is relatively threshold. I have seen and heard far more distressing stuff in Iraq.  Smiley

I own this movie and have only seen it once. I cried like a baby for almost ten minutes after I saw it. I was like "Oh, Miyazaki, I liked Princess Mononoke", popped it in, expecting some fantastical adventure with magical creatures. What I got was a kick in the nuts.

Also, Titanic, Crash (don't ask me why) and a few others I won't admit to because it is just not right.
