    Wow! And this from Harvard Chaplin no less....
     
    I'm not too surprised that this sorta thing is coming out of a Muslim's mouth, but I hoped the folks at Harvard Chaplin would be a bit more 'moderate', and not very much on the extremist side. Oh well.. whistling2

    He should be kicked out of Harvard immediately, and preferably jailed for treason. His statement does go directly against the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. It's disgusting that twits like this still get respect in some circles. "And Allah knows best" is a pathetic cop out for idiots who value their own sense of security over their common humanity. Assholes.

    Oh oops, my bad. I thought the 'Harvard Cahplin' was the religious sect. of Harvard weather it be Christianity, Islam, etc.

    He's quoting texts and imam's of authority, nothing new of his position, it's orthodox. Yes it's unpopular in this enlightened western society, but atleast he is of the moderate view that it is impossible to carry out without the khalifate, not to be carried out by vigilantes *cough*jihadis*cough*... Roll Eyes Tongue

    BoR does not apply to private individuals/institutions-- they are merely rights against the state. Any nutjob is completely free in this country to spout off any intolerant, bigoted bullshit they want so long as it doesn't amount to immediate incitement to violence (and the judicial standard for that in the US is pretty damn high). If that weren't the case, every neo-Nazi, White Power skin and Klansman would be in prison.

    If we're gonna start jailing people for violating the BoR, there are plenty of people in government who could stand to be put in prison (in fact, almost all of them in this country), as well as Christian evangelical leaders who have directly collaborated with the US government to violently deny the rights of people in Latin America (though that's not a violation of BoR, it is a violation of international law).

    It's used the same way in the US military-- chaplain can be a priest, a minister, a rabbi or imam walk into a bar...I think the term just means any clergy assigned to a lay organization/institution.

    Just what good is there in his "moderate" stance deeming the establishment of a caliphate as compared to a punk-ass jihadi takeover. Either way a bunch of creeps runs human society down to the level of varmints.

    There is no requirement for a khalifa to be present for the ruling to occur.
    Any person who states such a requirement is an apologizing do-gooding lying twirp.

    Usually, I have no problem with apologizing do-gooder lying twirps and wish we get more of them. However, in this instance, the khalifa apology is just an empty rhetoric. Because it is Extremely easy to locate a khalifa. In the city I lived in in cairo, we had 3 Khalifas.

    He isn't "moderate"at all. He is still advocating killing people for exercising their freedom of thought.
    If you strip away the bullshit his stance comes down to "Really we should kill apostates, but unfortunately we're not allowed to do it here and now."

    That is not a moderate stance. It isn't even close.

    The plethora of obfuscating, multisyllabic phrases in his publications serves only to accentuate the obscurity of his prose. That conclusion is not based on some sort of mawkish philosophy or on Taha-style mental masturbation, but on widely known and proven principles of science.

    Taha considers our independence to be the most formidable obstacle in the path of Islam. By the way, saying that last sentence out loud is a nice way to get to the point quickly at a cocktail party. His values are based on a technique I'm sure you've heard of. It's called "lying" where he equates apostasy to treason.

    This is what it is: They make out as if Islam is a personal posession of theirs that we have dumped with utmost disrespect.

    If you look at it like that, their behaviour is understandable.

    I'm the sort of person that likes to look at why and how people believe things, and I think this is why and how Muslims believe apostacy is really worthy of death.

    The problem then is that it doesn't make sense to think of Islam as a personal property. It is a belief. People can't own beliefs... that's ridiculous.
    The unlived life is not worth examining.
