    Why do humans believe in God?


    please explain your reason, why do humans believe in God?

    inteligent mind have nothing to do with believing in god or not

    -wishful thinking
    -societal conventions
    -convinced literature is divinely inspired

    - they don't look at the big picture
    - they are given "evidence" that isn't and fall for it

    I believe in God... or rather I believe in 'something' that I can't define.

    Why?

    I'm not sure.

    Perhaps it is wishful thinking. I don't like the idea of this being all there is because it sucks.

    But I also feel that the mere existence of the world points to 'something' that is greater beyond our imagination.

    That may not make make much sense - but, hey!

    I understand this type of belief Hassan, and sometimes go into bouts of it myself.

    But there is a big difference between believing that there is "something" greater out there... and believing in the patriarchal sky God that is made in the image of man, sends cryptic messages and punishes with hellfire.

    I guess you should explain your definition of 'God', Kobe. I think the phenomena of how people can believe in the patriarchal sky God is definitely worthy of investigation.

    Oh yes, absolutely! And it really annoys me when people hear me say I believe in God and think that I mean the absurd and ridiculous definition of God in Islam or Christianity.

    there are very simple reason human believe in god, first life is very mysteries in many way.

    secound  human body is very complecated to understand and how does it work and who made us  


    third curious about what is death, why do we die?

    It's a false sense of security.  Even though he cannot be proven to exist, people believe because they are afraid of not having any significant purpose in life from a god.

    I think a majority of the people also believe because they are simple taught to belief in a God from a very young age and also told not to question it.

    Completely irrelevant.  We're discussing why humans believe in God, not why they don't.  Brainwashing is one reason why some people believe in God, inability to understand natural explanations for the world around us is another, but I suspect the most common reason is the wish to survive after death/fear of death.

    Also, they may agree with what they believe to be the rulings of God  (if for example the rulings of God give them power over others) and so think that this must make God true. Convenience, in a word.

    Yeh, people often equate 'God' to 'organized religion'.  Religion has always been people pretending to know the nature and 'mind' of God.  That's why I choose to believe in God, but not sign up to a religion.

    logic should not be subjective. why do you think many people who know the Qur'an and Bible come to the conclusion that these books make no sense? whereas believers think they not only make sense but they are miracles?

    it was extremely hard for many ex-muslims to leave their religion, both as a psychological and sociological experience. do you think that they go through all this because it's convenient?

    i could say the same thing about believers, they don't look at their faith objectively and dare to truly question it because they are rather comfortable in 'their personal lifestyle'.
