I know of a girl at uni who has an ex-bf who was Jewish. He assumed she was Jewish all along but when he asked her just how much Jewish she is, she said her great grandfather/mother (can't remember which) was Jewish. He immediately wanted nothing to do with her. He said her parents wanted him to marry a pureblood Jewish girl.
Yes, Judaism is not an evangelising religion. However, unlike most other ethnocentric religions like Yazidism, the Druze, etc. Judaism does accept converts. I think some evangelical Jewish groups exist, too.
You should be wary of reaching a conclusion about Judaism/Jews based on a single experience. Jewish individuals are not necessarily immune to exclusivist thoughts, of course.
