I suspect the same, especially when you read these lengthy passages of the OT which consist of big, long lists of so-and-so was the son of so-and-so who was the son of so-and-so who begat so-and-so, ad infinitum. It looks like an attempt to establish patrilineal descent on a culture that didn't previously have it.

Well from my experience I have been told otherwise. You can convert to Judaism if you want to but if you were to go to a rabbi and asked to be converted to Judaism, he would be a little confused and unprepared; Judaism is not a missionary religion.

I know of a girl at uni who has an ex-bf who was Jewish. He assumed she was Jewish all along but when he asked her just how much Jewish she is, she said her great grandfather/mother (can't remember which) was Jewish. He immediately wanted nothing to do with her. He said her parents wanted him to marry a pureblood Jewish girl.

The unlived life is not worth examining.

The bible is not a Fairy Tale.

It is 100% literal, proof with no contradictions or lies anywhere in the book.

As told to me by Christians.

We keep hearing about how Jack Straw or the French government have mentioned the veil and our doing so puts us in the same boat as them. How so? I want a ban on the burka, neqab and child veiling.

The largest denomination of Christianity - the Catholic Church - do not believe that. Nor do the Anglicans, AFAIK.

Cheetah is correct. I guess ExHindu might be talking to Creationist types perhaps.

(But personally think most of the bible -- and most fairy tales -- and our subjective experience of life itself -- doesn't contain lies as such. There is no absolute truth and falsity in a story: how can you say "Wuthering Heights" is true or false, absolutely. It is how the story affects us that counts. The Truth found in stories -- and the Truth found in living life -- is of a different nature that one of correctness and incorrectness. Which is why literalism doesn't work for religion. Hyper-literalism does.)

Yes, Judaism is not an evangelising religion. However, unlike most other ethnocentric religions like Yazidism, the Druze, etc. Judaism does accept converts. I think some evangelical Jewish groups exist, too.

You should be wary of reaching a conclusion about Judaism/Jews based on a single experience. Jewish individuals are not necessarily immune to exclusivist thoughts, of course.
