    Sahih Bukhari
    Volume 4, Book 52, Number 47:
    Narrated Anas bin Malik:
    Allah's Apostle used to visit Um Haran bint Milhan, who would offer him reals. Um-Haram was the wife of Ubada bin As-Samit. Allah's Apostle, once visited her and she provided him with food and started looking for lice in his head. Then Allah's Apostle slept, and afterwards woke up smiling. Um Haran asked, "What causes you to smile, O Allah's Apostle?" He said. "Some of my followers who (in a dream) were presented before me as fighters in Allah's Cause (on board a ship) amidst this sea cause me to smile; they were as kings on the thrones (or like kings on the thrones)." (Ishaq, a sub-narrator is not sure as to which expression the Prophet used.) Um-Haram said, "O Allah's Apostle! Invoke Allah that he makes me one of them. Allah's Apostle invoked Allah for her and slept again and woke up smiling. Once again Um Haram asked, "What makes you smile, O Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "Some of my followers were presented to me as fighters in Allah's Cause," repeating the same dream. Um-Haram said, "O Allah's Apostle! Invoke Allah that He makes me one of them." He said, "You are amongst the first ones." It happened that she sailed on the sea during the Caliphate of Mu'awlya bin Abi Sufyan, and after she disembarked, she fell down from her riding animal and died.

     w00t Why would this woman look for lice in Mo's head if she didn't think he had them? Why did she get so cosy with him anyway that she could even look for lice in his head?

    Anyway, head lice is so dirty!  vomit And its infectious! I would  Vamoose if Mo came near me!

    Your reaction is surely a joke right?

    I mean I would run if Mo came near anyway, but that's a bit of an over reaction to lice, something that happens to mostly everyone at some stage in their life.

    I had them as a child and I used to have to get shampooed, and my kids get them sometimes now because other kids have them at school, but I don't keep them at home just because some of the other kids have "the lurgies".   I just de-louse them whenever it happens, because it's a part of life.

    The story of the woman looking for lice in Mohammed's hair just reminds me of how closely we are related to chimps.  That's what chimpanzees do as a bonding exercise - they groom each other and pick out fleas and lices from each other's fur and eat them.

    People being so much more advanced than chimps, presumably she didn't eat any lice she found.   Tongue

    Yeah, I wasn't serious, I mean I would run if Mo came near me but it wouldn't be over lice, I'm not scared of Jesus or Buddha btw!  Wink

    Totally, it's amazing to me that anyone can't see the resemblence between the two species.

    In morocco they didn't have lotions and potions to kill the lice, so my step mother would de-louse us in the same way....minus the eating, although the "bitch of the dark" may have had a penchant for eating live insects, you never know.  Tongue

    This woman was not a mahram and was somebody else's wife! What was he doing visiting her and letting her pick his hair for lice!

    Yes, but Mo was the alpha chimp male, so normal tribal rules didn't apply to him.

    Precisely, that is more bothersome than the fact that he had lice! Even in our modern societies when we don't believe in stuff like staying away from non mahram men, I think many women would draw the line at picking head lice from a friend's head, unless he was a very close friend who could find no one else to do it for him? Why didn't his multiple wives do this lice picking?

    I suppose you have a point, but it is generally agreed amongst ulema that chatting to people of the opposite sex on the internet is haram. And chaperones must me mahrams. The mods are not mahrams.

    You should have seen the reaction by the female mods over there when King Tut told them that as women they had no right to set rules that he had to follow and that women moderating men was unislamic.  Cheesy  It was priceless.

    Well they were outraged of course, gave many examples of aisha's hadiths as rulings thus showing that women could be in charge of men under these conditions, and of course banned dear old tutty.

    I agree with Tut though, literal islam doesn't give women credit enough in their intelligence, to allow them an "in charge" position.

    Of course not. Isn't the actual word used "deficient". I remember once on Ummah, somebody asked why there would be more women in hell. I did not leave a word of commentry, I just posted hadith about women being deficient. And it was deleted! I could not believe sahih hadith were being censored, obviously because it put Islam in a bad light!

    I wonder if they can communicate with one another, in a way we dont understand and what the words for "I want nookie" is in Chimpish. 

    I remember watching a documentary where a monkey was taught to communicate using sign language and they wanted to see if she would pass the knowledge to her offspring. 

    If I remember rightly I think she did, but I wonder what happened with the next generation and if they expanded and created new signs for more useful words?
