    Do you think world peace is possible and, why?   I think it is possible but, it would be after a global disaster. Sadly it wouldn't last very long.

    My opinion on this is the same as many of the other "big" questions regarding human progress-- No, but we could certainly do a hell of a lot better than we're doing now. Of course, we could also do worse.

    I think it is possible, even before a global disaster.  We need a more powerful international police force, as well as a respected international panel, with clout, that will rule & judge on existing grievances.

    You can do a poll if you want to quantitatively analyse opinion on this topic.

    No, human nature doesn't allow for it.

    That's like asking if apes will ever stop fighting each other, or if Lions will ever stop fighting for dominance amongst each other, a non starter.

    Also, what do you mean "after a global disaster"?

    Let's be realistic here, a global disaster would break down the little control we do have now, there would be no utopia.

    like a meteor  threat. it just seems that we as humans come together after a tragic event for, a short time anyway. I agree human nature wouldnt allow it but, i think for a short time it would work.

    No, I think your idealism is sweet  Wink , but there have been awful things happen before, and all it leads to is violence, rioting on the streets, increased rapes, a severe lack of lawlessness basically.

    Peace isn't peace if it needs to be kept in check by force, which is the only way you could control things after a major disaster.

    1) There are too many people, with a finite amount of stuff. Over population will always be a major factor.

    2) Religion is also a close second. It is currently the greatest and most destructive  force for tribalism.  Tribalism helps keep us seperated and creates hate, mistrust, and the general us/them mentality. Without real unity humanity will not be able to tackle the problems face in #1, and will always be at each others necks.

    So Allah created the world we live and made it so it will always have people doing bad in...might as well give up on world peace then eh? BACKWARDS.

    I dont think we can ever create a perfect world where everyone is happy.


    However, in the timescale of things, we are a very young creature, and are still in our early evolutional development.

    If you were to put the time scale of the Earth into a year, humans have only been on Earth 12mins to midnight on newyears eve, not long at all!

    So i think if we manange to get through the next few thousand years without killing all life on Earth, then the future might hold bright.

    BUT! i think i go with the idea that before that happens, there may well be another world war, or something like that.

    The fact is in the last 100 years the world have become more exposed, this could go two ways - good or bad. Population is boooooooming, its scary. The way we live in the west at the moment isnt sustainalbe, there just simply isnt enough the Earth can give we are using it all up.

    When this comes to a head, i predict it wont be pretty.

    World peace is not possible. There are too many people in the world holding a multitude of contrasting beliefs, each group believing they are correct. Unless the world's population feel the need to unite in the face of an alien invasion from out of space which threatens everybody, world peace will not transpire.

    If you mean lack of wars by world peace, then I most definitely believe it is possible. Although I don't define peace as merely the lack of violence, I think getting rid of mass murder is the first step. Wars are about as natural as breast implants. In fact, I don't think we're going to survive much longer if this war business keeps going like it does.

    Eliminating mass-killings may be possible, but eliminating violence without posthuman engineering seems impossible to me.

    Mankind has eveolved into more intelligent more caring animals that chimps have. We have the ability to strive for peace. However we keep ourselves subjected to stone age ideologies that only seek to divide mankind, that teach the superiority of one group over another and claims it's the only way.

    Only societies that give up such ideologies and pursue humanistic ideals seem to achieve any semblance of peace. Until we give up religious dogma, there will be no realistic chance of world peace. And of course mad dictators!
    Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik
