     OP - July 02, 2009, 12:52 PM

I was going to go to the Cropredy Folk Festival (13th, 14th, 15th August) with a friend of mine, but he is not well and can't go.

So I want to sell my ticket: 78 pounds (my pound sign won't come up???) That's the price I bought it - they are now going for 86 pounds I believe and may possibly be sold out soon.

If anyone is interested in going and wants to buy a ticket, PM me Smiley

This is the line-up (so far):

    Thursday 13 August

    Steve Winwood
    Buzzcocks
    Ken Nicol & Phil Cool
    4 Square
    Harlequinn

    Friday 14 August

    Richard Thompson
    Seth Lakeman
    The Dodge Brothers
    John Jorgensen Band
    Scott Matthews
Ade Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds
BBC Young Folk Award Winners - Megan and Joe Henwood
    ColvinQuarmby

    Saturday 15 August

    Fairport Convention & special guests.
    Ralph McTell
    Nik Kershaw
    Dreadzone
    Feast of Fiddles
    Churchfitters
    Richard Digance

Cheesy... I know - it was a surprise to see them there - but the organizers always like to add something different each year = and since most of the festival goers are old - like me - and still remember the 70s, they usually include a 70s band  grin12

I blame Aziz. Srsly. This whole biz with the question marks everywhere started after he suggested some messing around with files in an attempt to support multiple language sets without going to a full utf-8 conversion. I should probably dig up that thread and make sure I have reversed all the changes just to see if it makes any difference.

As far as I remember I didn't suggest modifying files to switch to a different character set where theoretically both English and Arabic would be supported. I think you got that idea from the SMF support forums. As a quick fix I guess you changed from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1, and that's where the problem lies, because it's a limited character set that cannot even encode umlauts (äöü.) You might wonder how I'm able to show umlauts here, and that's where we get to my solution I had proposed back then in this story. I've written some JavaScript code which simply turns non-ASCII characters into numerical entities before sending off the posting to the server (e.g. ö => &# 246;) I have that script file installed locally here (keywords user scripts, greasemonkey...)
Ozzie, you had some difficulties applying the patch I gave you, so I looked at it again and debugged it. I'm sure it worked for me, but you went with the quick hack anyway.
You screwed up big time, mister!  Tongue

I didn't change from UTF-8 to ISO at all. The site has always been on ISO.  Tongue  The whole idea of the "quick fix" was to avoid having to do a complete UTF-8 conversion. The thing went funny after trying to mess around with escaping wotsits n stuff. I'll look at it later and make sure everything is reverted to standard SMF code and with a bit of luck that will sort it.

Oh and the reason I haven't gone with a UTF-8 conversion yet is because I did a test one a while back and the upgrade script for SMF 2.0 (which I want to do as well) buggered the collation on some of the database tables if they were UTF-8. Got a nice little bug report out of that one.  Cheesy

So that's why we're still on 1.1.9. At this stage I think I'll hold off until RC2 before upgrading. Hopefully then we can get UTF-8 as well.

    Well would you believe it?

Yusuf Islam has announced he is playing Cropredy this year! (He must have heard I have decided not to go this year lol)

    Yusuf for Cropredy 2009!!
    Added 2009-07-08 12:47:30

On yesterday's Simon Mayo Show on BBC Radio Five Live, Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) told Simon that he would be joining his old friends Fairport Convention at their annual bash at Cropredy!

Regulars to the Cropredy Festival will know that Fairport always have a very special surprise guest or two up their sleeves to help them out with their 3 hour marathon Saturday night festival closing set.

Last year Robert Plant joined us on stage for a very moving tribute to Sandy Denny by singing "Battle of Evermore", the Led Zeppelin song she contributed to. We managed to keep this a secret right up to the moment he walked out on stage! More...

However, since Yusuf's disclosure that he would be joining Fairport for "two, maybe three, maybe four songs" at this year's event, the 'Cat' is well and truly out of the bag!

Fairport's drummer Gerry Conway recorded with Cat Stevens throughout his career and Simon Nicol joined him in the studio for the "Numbers" album. Maart Allcock recently performed live with Yusuf so the Fairport connection is very strong indeed and needless to say, we are absolutely delighted to welcome Yusuf to the Cropredy stage.

To hear what is an excellent interview with Yusuf in full, you may download Simon Mayo's Tuesday podcast here.

Yusuf recently released a fabulous new CD - "Roadsinger" to great critical acclaim and to find out more about this recording and indeed all things Yusuf, please visit his website by clicking here.
