What if The Whole World Become Muslim?
OP - July 21, 2009, 08:13 AM

I was wondering if anyone thought about the silly wish of Muslims that the whole world become Muslim!!

How can everyone on earth then perform the most essential ritual of Islam.... Namely the Haj to Mecca!! Which is done in a specific time and specific place... The whole world would never fit in there?

I think Mohamed have no idea how big the world is or how many people will populate the world.... Or would they skip that???

Have anyone thought about that?

It wont happen. Well, not while im still alive.

Every person on earth could become muslim, but i wouldnt. Id rather die or live in the forrest on my own, and do dawn raids on the mosques to get my food and water.

Well since there is no requirement for anyone to do the haj every year the whole world wouldn't have to fit in all at once anyway.

Glen, don't worry it won't. I am just talking about the Muslim wish and it is a hypothetical question. If all become Muslims, how would they fit in one of the most important pillars of Islam? It is impossible I know!

I think IMHO it shows the under studied proposal of Islam!

On second thought you're right. It is stupid. Even if you assume that people are only required to do the haj once in their life, which AFAIK is the traditional way of looking at it, with an average lifespan of seventy years and a world population near enough to seven billion that works out to one hundred million people all doing the haj at the same time. Gonna be a tad crowded.

I know that, but it is needed at least once in your lifetime. Haj today can only allow not more than 2M people. 10 or 20 years ago it was only 1M which means in the days of Mohamed it must have been a few hundreds at a time only...

Simple math:

The world population now is estimated: 7000,000,000 (7B) (this estimation could mean that there might be more people in areas like wild Africa and amazonian jungles that were not counted). If we say that 60 years is the average age of people especially in the developing poor "Muslim" world.

Then 7B / 60 years = 120 M per year

So every year only 120 M could be allowed to go to Mecca?

Yeah I just did much the same calculation. I expect we'll be seeing "virtual haj" and other such things in the not too distant future. Or perhaps "Islamic indulgences" could be purchased for a suitable sum. The Catholic church used to do rather well out of Papal indulgences.

Funny Osman, I was just doing the same calculation!!

So yes, either Islam should change the Must rule of HAJ and remove it from the 5 Pillars of Islam, or just say OOPS, we did not see that coming!

Virtual Haj is very doubtful... Muslims are very backwards when it comes to religion.... Muslims think that Shorts and T-Shirts are anti-Muslim... They still wear a jilbab and a baggy trousers. If they are sane, in the Gulf area they should have adopted the Australian Hat with the fly hushing little threads... I think in the sun it would work better than a head scarf!

I am always teased by friends when I wear shorts or put on a cowboy hat (being in Africa)...

They would never do a virtual Haj, I am sure!!!

Y'know what? I just thought of something else. Even with the current state of play we have approximately 20% of the global population being Muslim, so using my earlier figures we can conclude that there should be twenty million people doing the haj every year right now. You reckon Mecca handles a maximum of two million, so that leaves eighteen million people stuffed every year. A different eighteen million every year too, not the same ones.

Think about it.... with the modern technology and architectural engineering advances and the cash of the Saudi Oil, and they could only make the place fit 2M (barely). I have friends and relatives who went to Haj last year and they came back angry and furious about how dirty and messy and crowded it was. They came back with the flu that lasted 2 weeks...

I was wondering at the time of Mohamed... Did he know how many people live outside the Gulf region? I bet not!

Does Buddhism require a pilgrimage too? If not, then obviously there are other religions that can fit with the world domination theory other than Islam...

You see I doubt the world has changed much in terms of percentage of population since a 1000 years ago. Saudi Arabia has one of the fewest densities of population on earth...

Look again. The areas with low population in Africa are the deserts, notably the Sahara up north and Kalahari down south.

I know more than a few people who go often, and there are probably many poor and impoverished people who will never go, then there are those who are impious, or will put it off until their old and never make that age and not go.

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

Good point Awais, there are people who go to haj every year. That makes it even worse. If people go every year then there should be an Islamic law or something to prevent this to allow space for first timers... If there is no forbidding rule from the Quran or Hadeith, then people won't listen and the will just go.

I know most of us here at COEM understand that the whole thing is a man made tourist and commercial attraction that benefit the Saudi's only. But I am hoping that some one like Kope for example would understand that there are impossible things in religion in general and in Islam in particular.

The whole world doesn't have to become Muslim. This is already a huge problem NOW.

There are currently 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, and the average life expectancy is 70 years.

A Muslim should really be of age when they go hajj. There's no point going when you're a baby because you won't remember it. So lets assume that the minimum age to go hajj is 10 years old.

1,500,000,000 divided by 60 = 25,000,000

So they need to accommodate 25 million pilgrims every year in order for Muslims to fulfil their compulsary pillar of Islam.

To put this into perspective, that's the equivalent of the ENTIRE population of Saudi Arabia.

Currently, 2 million Muslim go to hajj every year. This figure needs to increase tenfold (and even more in the future!)

I dont think Hindu's, Buddhists or Christians would like or consider themselves Muslims. However you are free to call them what you like, it still does not make it remotely true.

Kope's Islam is something different from the one I once knew! Mohamed's Islam have promised Hell fire for eternity to Christians and Jews who did not beleive in Mohamed as the messanger of god.

Kope - if they are all Muslims then why are all the rules different? Why bother avoiding alcohol, and praying 5 times a day when you can be a Muslim without?
