     OP - July 24, 2009, 08:27 PM

hi I am 18 years old I finished my A levels a month ago I have been a muslim all my life until a few months ago in biology class we were discussing evolution. Some atheist boy said he believed in evolution and I told him it was just a theory that has not been proved ( I knew nothing about evolution I just told him what I heard from another muslim) after a little argument we dropped it and continued with our lesson. when I got home at the end of the day I went on the internet and looked at some creationism stuff and read some Harun Yahya so I could co back the next day and tell this boy why evolution was wrong. I wanted to know why this boy believed in evolution so I started to read about evolution the more I read the more I was convinced and it made sense by this time creationism started to sound like a pile of old shit so I started to doubt creationism once I done that I started to doubt Islam, I stopped prying and gradually lost my faith in Islam. Now I am a closet atheist no one knows this at home I pretend to pray and when anyone asks have you prayed? I just say yes

"When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me."

It is a pile of old shit, isn't it?  That's the thing that constantly amazes me about creationism - how stupid it is, it's like religion for dumbasses.

You're story sounds very similiar to a lot round here.  Its a difficult stage to go through at the beginning, like you have lost your footing.  You will probably go though doubt, and lots of ups & downs, feel like a hypocrite, get involved in lots of arguments, a real rollercoaster.  Stay true to yourself and do what you think is right (take a look at humanism if you feel a vacuum after losing your belief system). Hi Malik. Welcome to the forum.

Harun Yahya's books are ridiculous. They are totally full of basic errors. There's even a thread about them here somewhere.

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

    Hi Malik - welcome.

Probably best to keep it to yourself for now, for two reasons. Firstly so that you do not expose yourself or your family to unnecessary danger, hurt, friction etc... Secondly so you can grow, learn, read and discover yourself better and be more confident in who you are and what you believe or don't believe.

I hope this forum can help you explore the thoughts and questions you may have.

I always disagree with Hassan on this point.  But I was straight up from the beginning and never lied about my beliefs, and glad I did as most people had a softer landing by the time I was a fully fledged non-believer.

However I acknowledge everyones situation is different, so analyse that aspect from your own environment.  Its not easy whichever way you go.

    Hello and welcome...

I think you did the right thing going for the scientific proof. The Quran is always said to be the true words of god and that it is full of scientific facts, but the more you read the more you find out that it is just a repetitive and copied writings of Muhamed and his Cusion Waraka Ibn Nawfal. I think that Muhamed was an extremely clever and self-taught person who have very good knowledge of previous major religions. Also, I think that his first Wife "khadija" who was a very succesful buisnesswoman was involved in the invention of the whole story.

sorry for the late reply and thanks for the welcome and advice. I will be keeping my beliefs to myself for the time being and my family are proper muslims so I don't know how they will take it if I told them I was an atheist.

That is because Abiogenesis is clearly explained as the start of life correct?
  • Re: Another Infidel joins

    What about abiogenesis?

Firstly, abiogenesis is not covered under the evolution theory, which covers progression of living organisms

Secondly, a gap in knowledge should only spur more research, not us giving up and raising our hands to some Leprechaun in the sky.

Thirdly, What gap of knowledge are you referring to? We successfully created living matter from inanimate matter in a lab. It is done. We created living matter in 1953.

Fourth, It only took a week for the guys in white coats to create amino-acids in a vat,

Fifth: Since then, thousands of lab technicians built amino-acids just for the chance to get to play god for few days.

Here is what the men in white said:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller-Urey_experiment
    Quote
"At the end of one week of continuous operation, Miller and Urey observed that as much as 10?15% of the carbon within the system was now in the form of organic compounds. Two percent of the carbon had formed amino acids that are used to make proteins in living cells, with glycine as the most abundant. Sugars, lipids, and some of the building blocks for nucleic acids were also formed.

In an interview, Stanley Miller stated: "Just turning on the spark in a basic pre-biotic experiment will yield 11 out of 20 amino acids."[8]

The only contention is whether life was created on earth or whether it was brought on by meteors. The contention is not whether abiogenesis is possible or not. Abiogensis had been demonstrated for 60 years now. So go chill and have a glass of wine, nothing will happen to you.

Now Shadow, whoever fed you the story about abiogenesis, you have a duty to go back, investigate who wrote it, and reduce the reliability and credibility of everything else they sourced for you.

A lot of interesting theories, yet no one could explain how life originated.

That's because nobody yet knows, not even the creationists who pretend to know.

And according to you God is also here.  If something being in existence is evidence that it was created, then that applies to God too.
