  • Heretical Sufi sect getting notice in Indonesia
     OP - July 29, 2009, 06:57 AM

I've just recently heard of these guys, they are called Tariqat Naqsabandiyah.
I dont know too much about them, except that they go by 20 tenets, which include a disbelief in angels, a belief that God had a Son, and a suggestion that 5-times a day prayers are not always needed.

but they got the attention of the Indonesian Ulema Council, who apparently are bored with harrassing Ahmadiyya for a moment and is now freaking out about these guys.

Anyone know much about them? I guess they are actually an international sect.

Either way, their beards are impressive

I think the coolest one is from my cool forebearer, Owaisiyah dance.

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

Naqshbandiyat have been around for ages in Indonesia, and all of the ones I know, from different sub-groups, are totally normal - ha ha - Muslims.  They certainly pray 5 times a day.

Nasqbandi Sufis have been around for ages and not just in Indonesia. From memory they're a traditional sect that goes back centuries. I know there are some in Afghanistan and for those who remember Idries Shah, he was Nasqbandi.
