i made it this far without having fasted ONCE! dance lets see how long i can keep this up before my mother forces me out of bed in the middle of the night...

on another note, was talking about fasting with my dad today and he said that most people dont really get 'the point' of it all.. he said its not just about eating and drinking or wtv, doing bad deeds should break your fast just as much as anything else, but nobody really cares about that..

if only most muslims could be as sincere as my dad, they would be a little more bearable. sadly that will never happen...

Really? No hands cut off, no heads chopped off?

Nope, as long as you stay on the compound you should be fine. The cops seem not to concern themselves with them- they're gated and everything. My mom even had a friend who used to make her own wine.

the worst thing about fasting and those keeping it, is their breath

I believe there is a Hadith which states that some Sahabi complained during Ramadhan of his breath smelling bad, Muhammad replied that the breath of a person when he fasts is the best smell according to Allah.

Clearly Allah will never be a qualified dentist.

In my local Greggs, there is a sign that says "After the fast, is the feast! Open till late during Ramadhan!"

I can't believe they are opening late just so they can sell a few more cheese and onion pasties.

May sound weird... But sometimes I hate the fact that I don't believe in Islam...
Fasting isn't that hard... But it is hard if you don't believe in it. -_-

Zakir Naik is a liar/ignoramous. His views on evolution are laughable and no smart person would take him seriously. Not to sound mean, but I think he can get away form it because the audience he usually addresses are weak and ignorant people, who would never do research by themselves.

I don't think serious people like Dawkins, Harris or Hitchens would waste their time with a crettin like this. Although it would be interesting to see this non-scholar defeated and have him crawl back under some rock not to be seen again.

Well, that's the reason they are so indoctrinated in the first place. However, yes, doesn't help to having such a proud, authoritative (and to be fair, somewhat articulate speaker) to promote & affirm all the nonsense the audience believes in.

I remember this science mag article (the one below comes close) explaining that if REM sleep is deprived, then the mind is deprived of learning.

I think waking up early in the morning purely to pray in itself is a good indoctrinating mechanism.

    Quote
One study found that REM sleep affects learning of certain mental skills. People taught a skill and then deprived of non-REM sleep could recall what they had learned after sleeping, while people deprived of REM sleep could not.
