Its a very true statement, but to be sig-worthy & if you want it to reach the masses like Bertrand Russell or Shaw did, then to perfect it it needs another dimension, clever twist or humour added to it..

    e.g.

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means" - George Bernard Shaw

And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence" - Bertrand Russell

"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand" - Bertrand Russell

Well, those clever quotes can only be understood by clever minds. Not my intended audience.

    you mean this one?

    Quote
Bigotry and its manifestations such as sexual, ethnic, tribal, racial, cultural, religious, societal, national, civilizational and others are like pathogenic bacteria.  They require human hosts to propagate and will readily attack those with a low immune system.

    yup

he is a faceless man of mystery, identifiable only by the unique sequence of letters that he chooses for his musings a.k.a 'jLaLi Faqeer' - here is another one of his stunted lyrical rants

"I call Poe's law on Anjum Chaudury.  He's so good, that he deceived everyone! He is just another kafir, trying to expose Islam. Good job, Andy!"

Would I rather there were more countries like Israel, or more like Syria? Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East (Iraq may yet prove a second), and its Arab citizens enjoy more rights than they would living under any of the kleptocrat kings and psychotic dictators who otherwise infest the region.

On a tiny strip of land narrower at its narrowest point than many American townships, Israel has built a modern economy with a GDP per capita just shy of $30,000 - and within striking distance of the European Union average. If you object that that's because it's uniquely blessed by Uncle Sam, well, for the past 30 years the second-largest recipient of U.S. aid has been Egypt: their GDP per capita is $5,000, and America has nothing to show for its investment other than one-time pilot Mohamed Atta coming at you through the office window.

    ----

    Flame on.

I like the quote, partly because it made me laugh, and partly because as a gay person, Israel is the only country in the Middle East I could love enough to move to. Albeit, their foreign policies I disagree with (though I would argue which government would not respond with violence against terrorism), I envy the fact that Israel has the most amount of museums per capita in the world, or the worlds second highest output of books per citizen in the world, or that it has the most engineers and scientists per capita in the world. It is admirable.

It had been well-understood by the scientists and philosophers of classical antiquity that the Earth was a mere point in a vast, encompassing cosmos. But no one had ever seen it as such -- here was our first chance, and perhaps also our last, for decades to come.

So, here they are -- a mosaic of squares laid down on top of the planets, and a background smattering of more distant stars. Because of the reflection of sunlight off the spacecraft the Earth seems to be sitting in a beam of light. As if there was some special significance to this small world... but it's just an accident of geometry and optics.

There is no sign of humans in this picture. Not our re-working of the Earth's surface, not our machines, not our selves. From this vantage point our obsession with nationalism is nowhere in evidence. We are too small on the scale of worlds; humans are inconsequential, a thin film of life on an obscure and solitary lump of rock and metal.

Sagan (before what he says famously on the pale blue dot video, talking about his decision to take one final snapshot as it left the galaxy)

An interviewer at the Goldon Globes in America asked Ricky Gervais if he thought drinking beer on stage live whilst hosting the awards made him nervous.

    Gervais replied:

"No... no... no.... Beers not an alcoholic drink in England, it's a soft drink"
