    Faisal A.Z. Yamani contacted the Danish newspapers that reprinted Kurt Westergaard?s cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban, requesting that a front page apology be printed as well as removing the images from news websites.

    The lawyer claimed to have been contacted by ?several thousand descendants of the Prophet? all of whom felt insulted and defamed by the reprinting of the cartoons.
    The letter requested that the apology be printed in Danish, English, French and Arabic by the end of September, or further legal action would be taken.

    But all Danish media have ruled out printing any sort of apology.

    J?rn Mikkelsen, editor of Jyllands Posten newspaper, which originally published the cartoons in 2005, said the letter was just the latest in a long line of threats and comments from Islamic countries.

    ?Our answer is the same now as before and we have absolutely no reason to apologise. The prophet drawings are covered by Danish law and tradition and represented a journalistic project that started a debate on the freedom of speech,? said Mikkelsen.

    Features editor at Politiken newspaper Anders Jerichow said the lawyer appeared to be trying to stir up tensions.

    ?Just let him. The majority of the Muslim world is taking it easy and so can we,? said Jerichow.

    Five Danish daily newspapers and many smaller papers reprinted the cartoons in February 2008 after it emerged that police had foiled a plot on the life of Westergaard.

    Apology? These people think they can defeat freedom, liberty and the right of people to make art, comedy and satire with their barbaric, voilent acts of brute force.  finmad

    If western powers had any balls, the cartoons should be published in EVERY publication everywhere, they should be on window decals, bumpers, doors, t shirts. To let these fuckin ideological tyrants make us curb our own freedom out of fear of their stupid ass attacks and their oh so fragile widdle feewings is a shame on the face of all that is liberal and free in the world.

    I often think about Muslims complaining about their religion being insulted. When the boot is on the other foot and it is Muslims insulting other religions, do they give a shit?!

    Muslims in the west will watch all the same shows as everyone else, like south park, simpsons, family guy, all have had heretical episodes about every religion and figure, including dawkins, jesus, everyone. Muslims will watch those shows and laugh as others are made fun of... but they just can't take a joke at their own expense. It's immaturity and Islamic dogma has it in spades. They need to be brought down a few notches, not put on a pedestal of political correctness.

    I just remembered something that I think Matt Groening said but I'm not entirely sure. It was something along the lines of "We make fun out of every religion, except Islam. You don't make fun out of Islam!"

    Well of course the Simpsons are part of a plot to corrupt Muslims. I had a lecture on that by a parent who was on the Board of Governors at Islamia School.

    She told me that the Simpsons does so much evil - it mocks religion and promotes disrespect and questioning of everything etc...

    I was tempted to say, "Yes, but what bad things does it do?"

    But why did these danish cartoons cause so much controversy? There have been many images of Muhammad made in the west, such as South Park, but they did not cause the amount of agro that these danish cartoons caused.

    Placebo effect-as soon as someone big and famous gets pissed off everyone else does.

    Ask the average UK Muslim what the conflict in Palestine means and what are the causes and parties involved-they will be fucked for an answer, but they will know that it's the Jews fault. Ask them about Darfur, they couldn't know or care less.

    Lots of things go unnoticed, but getting the masses mobilized is the key. Media attention, lots of speeches venting righteous indignation and you get ppl off their bums and out into the street.

    Create a fuss + Media attention = Mass demos.

    Its like the whole Rushdie thing. How many of the people who were protesting against it had actually read the book?!

    Exactly - hardly anyone had read it. But they had ALL heard someone condemn it from the pulpit or in their local circle or community.

    Until it becomes mass hysteria - then no-one can say anything against this hysteria for fear of being seen as disloyal. It's a lynch-mob mentality.

    What a shame that was. God forbid they should pick up a book and find out what was going on. All it was was a creative interpretation of Quranic events-regardless though no one should get angry enough to want to kill someone over a book.

    I remember being an indoctrinated child at a Madrassa by the name of DarulUloom at the age of 12 also echoing for Salman Rushdies death, I didn't even know the name of the book, neither did any of my peers but we were all taught to hate him thoroughly-8 years later as an atheist I visited my university library and checked out the book for myself-the Muhammad part was pretty good, as was the story in India, but the rest was fairly poor I thought. Still-he didn't even insult anyone.

    The one thing that truly unites muslims, is hatred. Hatred of the west, hatred of jews, hatred of apostates, hatred of gays, hatred of women who dare think themselves equal to men. While not every individual muslim holds these hatreds in his or her heart, they implicitly support those who do, by trying to whitewash Islam's *IMAGE* and not actually examining or reforming Islam's own fascism. Most "moderate" or "progressive" muslims are busy trying to sugar coat how non-muslims see Islam. They have no desire, ability or courage to actually change Islam. I'm so sick of hearing from proggies and apologists that Islam is *just misunderstood*. If it is, it is misunderstood by the progressives themselves. Muslims can be saved from Islam but Islam is inherently a fascist ideology that cannot be saved. Muslims care more about Islam than about people, whether they be Muslims or non Muslims. Hence all the violence and hatred towards anything and everything that dares to question or highlight the HUGE, GIGANTIC problems within Islam.

    Oh Yes! How can I forget the Rushdie affair. I was fifteen years old at the time and remember being in the crowd at the book burning! Ahmed Deedat even came to the city where I live to give a talk about it. I didn't get in to see him cos the queue was massive and not enough seats!

    That's one thing I hated about the Satanic Verses demos - there were people who spent all their time in bars drinking and never praying - setting light to books and putting it on a stick and screaming "Allahu Akbar!"

    Back to the topic of the OP what really gets me mad is how the Saudis think that just because they have God and loads of petro-dollars on their side they can boss and bully the rest of the world into sinking down to their level when it comes to intellectual and social freedom!

    How about I write a letter to all the leading Saudi papers demanding an apology for insulting my Jewish ancestors and killing off whole tribes of them back in the 7th century?  Wouldn't even make it to print!  finmad

    Excellent point! Need to bring it up every time an Islam apologist brings up killing of Native Americans to distract from criticism. At least America is ashamed of it and has given reservations to them.

    But Denmark's civilizational values are far too superior to Saudi's for this argument to hold any ground.
